Here's a great idea for a new addition to Bridge Street. How about a House Of Blues restuarant and live entertainment club? The ideal location would be at the bottom of the west side lake. Below is an aerial of Bridge Street and marked in blue is the area where a new HOB could go and the area marked in yellow is where the ferris Wheel should go.



This would make BS the ultimate shopping destination in the state. People from all over the state and south would come here just to ride the "Sky Wheel" and to hear star power at the House Of Blues.

A food court with different styles of fastfoods and eateries would be a nice addition too. Maybe that's waht's gonna be added below The Station?

^I think a House of Blues would fit better at Constellation (or any future development downtown) than at Bridge Street. Sorry, I just can't picture one of those in a suburban office park. The Ferris wheel is a cool idea, though. It would probably attract a broader demographic than the carousel.

As for the food court-- those went out of style in the 90s along with enclosed malls. It baffles me that Bridge Street even has one-- note that it's tucked in the back, so they didn't expect too much out of it anyway. That being said, Bridge Street does need more quick-service restaurants such as Zoe's Kitchen. But the Japanese restaurant there is good, and I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it yet.

What about a seafood restaurant like Red Lobster relocating to Bridge Street and having it with an outdoor patio like the steakhouse that faces the water?

Personally, I thought the Japanese restaurant there was pitiful. It kind of reminded me of those Chinese hole-in-the-wall places you find sprinkled around outside the city limits. Most of the wall decorations were from the previous restaurant that used to be located there. After eating there I wondered how long they would last considering the rent they must be paying.

This place is really nice! I was there while in Huntsville about a month ago. It was quite busy and a great place to stroll around and get something to eat. I was quite impressed with it. Did it take business away from the enclosed mall there in Huntsville?

Glad to see one of my ideas becom reality(Too bad I didn't suggest it to anyone that mattered) anyway it should be good taking something negative and make it positive. The TVA substation could evolve into an informative center about TVA and how they distribute power, similar things are at their dams.
"Starting tonight, that big, ugly power substation near the corner of Heart of Huntsville Drive and Monroe Street will be made beautiful thanks to colored lights.

Big Spring Partners, the downtown development group, is paying Theatrical Lighting Systems $2,500 to color the station in red, blue and green lights in the hopes of beautifying Huntsville.

"We're always looking for enhancements for downtown," Big Spring President Mary Jane Caylor said.

The goal, according to Caylor, is to "attract individuals to the downtown area to see another beautification area of interest."

The lights, which will change every few seconds, will illuminate the power poles and transformers. Memphis and Raleigh, N.C., have done similar lighting projects with downtown substations."

I was shocked to read that when the General Manager for the Atlanta Braves was in town, about a month ago, he stayed at the Mariott! I hope is was due to some business partnership between the Braves and Mariott...

"branch campus"in the old art deco Times Building. How much of the 12 story building would be used has not been decided. Currently Drake's main campus is several mile north adajcent to Alabama A&M. Good idea, hopefully it will happen but needs approval from the state.

the state has approved this so now there will a good bit of activity and potential at this downtown location

You'd be better off getting a place like Wintzell's that doesn't have a development model like Red Lobster...plus it's something will a little more character and quality.

Wintzell's is locating not too far away in the Green Hills location.
It is really supposed to be an impressive makeover of that site.

Didn't realize that...shows my lack of knowledge of the area. But my point was at least they should try and recruit a more unique type of restaurant than a "boiler plate" Red Lobster.

Plus they already have Conners for seafood. Personally, I would like to see a Dale's Steakhouse come back to Huntsville so I don't have to keep driving over to Florence. Of course Conners is STEAK and seafood, so Dales might not be allowed either.

Hey that's ok, and you are right, even a "Joes Crab Shack" would probably do well but that is part of the Landry's chain which already is located in HSV.
I perfer them and Bonefish(also in HSV) over Red Lobster.

That'll be interesting... now, all we need is for someone to turn a building in Birmingham into a rainbow and the entire state will be multi-colored! I actually think it could really help the state, kind of a play on how the state has progressed since the mid century segregation battles.

Either way, Huntsville desperately needs some more color in downtown. The Regions tower is good, as far as the green crown goes, but it needs more.

Don't be surprised if that's what the Renaissance downtown will do...leave it to Bronner.

There have been attempts by people with unlimited resources to get another Red Lobster in town but the corporate people wont allow it for some reason. The one on University is busy. usually packed, 7 days a week for lunch and dinner and has to be one of the more profitable restaurants in town.

It's possible that Red Lobster will eventually move it's current University Drive location to Bridge Street and Conners either have competition or just become a steakhouse only. But IMO, a seafood restuarnt would benifit being located by the water for the atmosphere aspect.

There's a huge lot by the food court that could put a nice sized 10,000 sf building there overlooking the west lake.

I would be surprised if all the restaurants there didn't have an cuisine exclusivity agreement in their lease.
