^ it is true though. you can't really get a pic of Edmonton's complete skyline from anywhere on the ground because you look up at it from almost every vantage point. Half the reason Cgy & Van skylines look good in photos is because there are many vantage points above the cities and their cores are all condensed. Edmonton is spread out along the top of the valley, not sitting in the valley like Cgy is for instance.

^^i was waiting for that but as mentioned by 240 it is true.

Due to the topography and length of our skyline is almost impossible to capture in one shot... hell even 3.

why?

our downtown skyline runs from 82st-124st

our south skyline runs from 99st-116st

One could say the reason why Edmonton skyline looks big is the flat terrain... Combined with the relatively small highrises in this city, it makes even the 10 stories buildings look tall. If Montreal was as flat as Edmonton is, the skyline would be almost twice as big.

EdmontonEnthusiast recently took a shot from somewhere up in Castledowns that came pretty darn close to getting the whole thing... much to the amazement of most other forumers (I think it's in this thread somewhere in August... too lazy to check).

This shot of Edmonton reminded me of a view from Stanley Park looking back into English Bay...

Ok... I understand this. But everything can be presented in such a way that their best features are presented, thus creating very strong and compelling images. Best examples of this are the Ottawa and Toronto shots taken from the water. This is where these skylines truely shine. A skyline can never really be entirely presented in one image. You know, there are a 🞵🞵🞵🞵 load of buildings on the other side of that cliff in Ottawa, but they kind of fall flat because of all the height limits and all that.

Edmonton most have one angle that really shows off its core in a dramatic way, I'm sure.

Those image at sun rise (?) taken from that path start to look pretty 🞵🞵🞵🞵.

I think these shots, posted by Cold, have done maybe the best job of showing off the length + density that I have seen.
