Cool. With the Arup and Kasian design there looks like there's a 6 flags magic mountain roller coaster on St. Patrick's Island.

Is Six flags still in Bankruptcy? Maybe we should buy a couple of rollercoasters and put them on the island.

If that design wins maybe we should name it Six Flags Rapid River and see if we can fool some tourists into coming to Calgary. Oh the look on their face when we show them our local alternative to a real amusement park, it would be so ironically amusing!

Haha thanks guys! Arup and Kasian's design does make it look a little like a theme park down there.

Thanks YNAT, the Bow elevations are a great reference. Looking at the pictures again, your right, Rosales is probably too big.

I had my SPF:a proposal all ready to go in the rendering when we got the news that Allied won the Cantos proposal. Booo! Now you won't be able to see anything...

Awesome job with those new images Devin!

No matter what bridge gets chosen, the view from tom Campbell hill will look great with the bridge in the foreground. Nice job putting the Peace Bridge in the background

Good eye Kevin, I didn't know if it would be that visibile in these low-low res images. I doubt you'd be able to see it from that angle, but I threw it in anyway.

Thanks Smitty, I was going to put some more proposals in, but they wouldn't all be as visible from that vantage point.

Perhaps I'll work on another image from a similar angle with more proposals in. I wonder how many will be altered and changed as the judges narrow the field down.

Great job! The first two things I noticed was Herald Sq. and LaCaille. The renderrings of the bridges did'nt catch my eye until the second or third time I looked!

these images reaffirm, for me, thatthe bridge need to be a low lying structure, as opposed to the really tall submissions that have been included in the views.

if you look at the masterplan for East Village, they are thinking of another type of 'iconic' gateway building once you come off the Edmonton Trail flyover.

it seems to me, as i have mentioned in other threads, that we are risking a very busy and overpowering set of buildings/structures in our skyline, instead of buildings which compliment each other. just remember that the images are showing none of the buildings that will be in the East Village in ten years.

as wooster pointed out, we are running the risk of creating a 'six flags' for a downtown skyline........ not good. when a pedeestrian bridge is 1/3 the height of a 65 story office building (the bow) i think we need to rethink things.

cntrlaltdlt, thank you again for your great images!!!!! they raise interesting point about these proposals for our city!

Obviously it's just a photoshop job, but from looking at these, if one of the fly-fishing concepts gets chosen, I hope its the Reach. It feels more elegant and understated than the Kasian entry, while still being interesting. I do think Halcrow-Yoles other concepts deserves a little more attention then it has so far.

And I seem to be in the minority here, but I'm really not seeing the appeal of the Infinity fishing net...

This is an interesting point. However, I think that a tall bridge would be nice as it adds a bit of variety. Really if we look at our river crossings they are all pretty low lying structures. It's nice to add a bit of altitude to that portion of the river to make it stand out.

When the Calatrava bridge was released there was a lot of commentary on here that the design was nice but it was not really going to be something that was visible from Memorial Drive. Part, of this is because it is low-lying (in this case due to height restrictions). If would be fantastic to see something that really stand out. I am wondering if I feel this way because we have been let down with the Cantos design.

Smitty, I agree with your point that we don't want something too overpowering, but of the submissions that Devin worked with the only one that has the overpowering feel to it is the Infinity design.

Obviously, the details of the designs that Devin used are pretty minimal so i am assuming that the heights of the structures are embelished for the purposes of the diagrams. Nonetheless, Devin's skills have really helped to create a mental image of what these structures will look like against the skyline.
