^Interesting, is there still the wine bar there (I can't recall its name)? I would've thought it was in that same spot but the awning says "The Duff Pub" so I assume the wine bar is still around. I've never been to it but I read a review on it after it opened and I've been intrigued by it ever since.

Anyways, perhaps Red Card could be a good place to catch a Canucks game or two this season.

The Uva Wine Bar is still there. It actually sits to the right of what you can see in this photo. I really like the wine bar. They've got a nice selection of wines and great little tapa dishes.

I think the new sports pub, the wine bar and the restaurant on the other side of the hotel lobby (I forget its name) are all owned by the same folks (maybe the same folks who have the hotel?). They may even use the same kitchen.

I have hopes the sports bar will be good . . . my guess is it will be a bit more upscale than most sports pubs, but still fun. One of the things I like about the wine bar is it's very friendly and casual, yet it's a true wine bar. The servers know the wines, and can talk intelligently about them. No attitude, though . . . welcoming everyone. Last time we were there you could tell there was a mix of regulars, couples on dates, a few visitors who'd wandered in, and a group of friends just hanging out. It was a nice mix.

The school board still does have plans to build an elementary school in the International Village neighbourhood. However about the money...

The daycare that is under construction in International Village does not intrude on the footprint of the proposed elementary school.

Quick question. Is Lucy Mae Brown now shut down? Walked by it, and from the opposite side of the road it looked shuttered.

Heritage Reno at Carall and Cordova (next to Army and Navy) is now clearly visible from the street. Looks about a million times better. Still wonder who's gonna lease these nice new digs being that they're just metres away from Pigeon Park.

Ottawa to spend $10M on Olympic pavilion

Ottawa to spend $10M on Olympic pavilion
Last Updated: Sunday, September 20, 2009
CBC News

Ottawa is spending $10 million to showcase Canada in a pavillion at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics — and it doesn't want to share the stage.

The federal government has announced it won't hold a joint pavilion with British Columbia at the Winter Games, despite a request from B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell.

The federal minister of state for sport, Gary Lunn, told a news gathering at the Vancouver airport on Sunday that B.C. and other provinces will develop their own pavilions, while Canada's will highlight the entire country.

The pavilion will promote both tourism and investment opportunities in Canada and be a focal point for Canadian fans and international visitors.

Canadian fans will be able to meet athletes at the site, show their support and get autographs.

The pavilion will be located in downtown Vancouver at the LiveCity celebration site.

Lunn couldn't say what it would look like. With five months to go before the Games, Ottawa will now start looking for bids to put it together.

Not sure about right now but I remember seeing a notice in their window a while ago about being closed down due to some liquor license violations.

"The Mark" Onni's development at 1372 Seymour has had the following evolution over the past year involving the developer, the city and a group of us at the 501.
-the reason for the initial height increased from 33 to 35 floors was due to the floor plates being over the maximum required by the Downtown South Guidelines of 6K square feet. The lower floors of which were well over 7K square feet.
-we then stated the reduction should be limited only to the south wall being moved further north to preserve unit views of English Bay
-the podium's height at 7 stories and proximity to the alley has been an issue as well.
-Onni has re-worked the initial 3 building podium down to 2 and has pulled back from the alley property line and there are signs that the height may be reduced 2 floors to 5.
-as well Onni has offered another Community Amenity Bonus in addition to the daycare centre. They wish to trade 5,165 of second floor office space for another 45,000 square feet or 6 floors bringing the tower to 41 stories.
-if however they do reduce the podium height then we will see the tower go beyond 41 floors. The city seems to be amicable to this since it does not infringe on any view cones and only breaks the Downtown South guideline of a maximum of 300 ft.

If all comes to pass then we will get a new landmark tower over 400 ft.

Noticed those the other day - look great. I think more row houses like that would really increase the density on the west side around Kits and Point grey.

Thanks for the pics Those small townhouses (are they?) look nice. We could use more of those homes in the Vancouver area, not downtown. hehe..so like the other poster, increases density.

this project was already passed in July by the development permit board and the set height at 351ft

if it were to go beyond that, the city would have to hold a public hearing to approve the increase which i really doubt onni is looking to do. especially since they are taking registrations for the upcoming launch.

No camera at work today - but on the roof of The Bay, there are about 13-14 large canvas panels with Olympic images on them - looks like they'll be hung on the side of the building soon. The colouring is a deep royal blue.
