Van Dusen will be among the best low rise buildings in the city.

Anyone here of 3333 Main St? There are more renders on the HBBH website. It looks like really good quality infill.

In addition to the Van Dusen Gardens, another project of commendable architecture would be the Vancouver Aquarium expansion.

Does anyone know when this expansion is scheduled for?

^ i believe they have fundraising issues to deal with, they've only been able to collect a fraction of what they need.

If by fraction you mean over 2/3rds then yes they have only raised a fraction of the funding needed. Mind you the remaining fraction is still a very large number.

Funny you should say that. I often drive by there and never gave it a second look. I assumed it was a parkade!

Instead of spending $350 million on a new open-air roof for BC Place, the city should replace the Teflon roof with a new one and then with the savings of not going with open-air concept, allocate the remaining funds to the aquarium expansion.

Isn't one owned by the city and the other by the province?

Anyway, BC Place needs a full renovation...

The street car is funded by the city, not the Province, and I do support the money being used for an upgraded aquarium. I have not been there in years, but if these upgrades happen i am sure myself and many others will be willing to go give it a try again. (of course it would be nice to take a streetcar to the new aquarium)

If the BC govt puts money there, you can expect a huge uproar from the animal rights lobby. Ugh.

I'm a volunteer at the Aquarium, I love the place and I would love to see it expand but I would like it to get the funding from patrons, of which they have many, so they are not as easily influenced by ever-changing political leanings.

it holds 36 people and you take an elevator up. how cool is that?

Great stuff, thanks Delirium. I've been wondering how that turbine has been progressing. I thought it was going to be an obvious feature on the mountains but I haven't even noticed it yet. I'll have to take a close look today and see if I can make it out. That observation deck is a great idea.

^^ It's quite noticeable when looking at Grouse from my place near city hall. I don't like the fact that it stands out so much when there isn't any snow:

Took this pictures yesterday.

Some camoflauge would have been nice (light blue colour or something).

I actually find it really interesting for it to stand out like that. I love pointing it out to people and most are so fascinated with it and can't believe they didn't see it before.
