Sutter loves his reclamation projects. Fluery is the biggest one yet. Like Conroy said, even if it's just a preseason game the Dome is going to go apeshit as soon as he takes the ice. Was anyone else at that '04 game against San Jose when he was in the crowd and ended up on the jumbotron, it got an immediate and lasting standing ovation.

My fondest memory of Theo (other than the knee-slide, that is legendary) was watching Rick Tabaracci pound him into the boards.

Always fun to watch a goalie get involved in the physicality.

^^ They won't be able to add him until 2 things happen, 1) he makes the team on either at least a 2 way contract, 2) the regular season starts.

Back in 07 they couldn't have Ovechkin or Crosby in NHL 08 the game at the release date. I assume this has to do with their agreement with the nhlpa.

I wonder if Jersey City has the balls to make up some Fleury jerseys, just for the heck of it. I imagine they'd sell out.

Damn, word is Fleury's sitting tonight out, along with most of the big names.

Should be an exciting game at least, with a bunch of kids working their asses off for a spot.

too bad it didn't end up that way! half of those kids were just walking around the ice, and at times unsure of what they were supposed to be doing. Was kinda painful to watch!

I think they held their own pretty well, considering 75% of what was on the ice tonight won't play a single game in the majors this year, while Edmonton fielded at least their 2nd line, if not part of their top line. The game was pretty competitive right until the last few minutes. The Oil sure does have some up-and-coming goaltender skill, I'll say that much.

I'm very, very disappointed with the reffing. In past years pre-season was a good indication of the "mood" of the officiating, whether or not they were going to crack down on the bullshit holding and obstructing, etc. Tonight's game was an embarrassment and looked to set the tone for even worse play than the playoffs last year. I swear, every jersey will be black by the end of the year based on how much stick-on-body contact seems to be allowed now. Well, if it's gonna go that way, at least the Flames have a defense-oriented team.

yea there was that one hold in the last period, i didn't catch who it was but the oilers player pretty much sat on one of our youngsters right beside a ref for a good 15 seconds while we were trying to apply some pressure. Then after the play, WE get a penalty! Cross your fingers the refs were trying to "make the team" as well

So, the girlfriend dragged me into "retro" clothing store here in Vancouver on Sunday. On one of the racks I found a 1995-1998 era Fluery Flames home jersey. I would've bought it if it wasn't to small for me.

Oddly enough, that era jersey made me think of something. Does anyone here remember Jim Peplinski did a come back with the Flames back in 95, only to retire again by the end of the season?

Also, I wonder if all things work out with Fluery, how much we're going to pay him? Half a million for the season? That seems the going rate for these guys doing the come back thing lately.

I bet he'd skate for free, that's how classy he's being about this.

Fleury will make the league minimum. I thought our young guns did okay last night, you can tell most of them will be sent down to Abbotsford very shortly. Deslauriers (sp?) was solid in net for Edmonton last night, as was their other goalie. Irving looked pretty good for his first NHL experience, but Keetley was pretty shaky, he allowed a goal from just inside the blue line.
