awesome vid :]

I think that our skytrain system is a solid backbone for expansion for our city. There's going to be more demand in the coming years for transit. I'm hoping to see two projects come to completion in my lifetime soon, haha..and those are the UBC extension, and the Evergreen line, which is taking forever to begin.

On a side note, for politics, I wouldn't mind having Surrey's Diane Watts being our Vancouver's mayor. She'd do a fine job :] either that, or she be premier. She would do better than what Robertson is doing now. My thoughts, only.

but yeah...thx for the video :]

The doors only stayed open for less than half a second, it might get from King George to Waterfront in under 10 minutes but no one would be able to get on lol.

New bus shelters coming in December [exclusive]

Civic Surrey has obtained a rendering of the new bus shelters that will go up across the City in December, according to an official City of Surrey poster. The City has been working over a year on the design of the new shelters, made possible due to the current shelter contract ending.

The new shelters appear to be quite similar in design to the shelters in most cities in the region, featuring a metal body with glass siding and an ad on one side. One unique design element is the inclusion of a pillar with the City’s logo at the top. Vancouver, Delta, and Langley, among others, have had similar modern bus shelters for years.

For a closer look at a mix of our current shelters (which will hardly be missed in my opinion), check out this old post from when Civic Surrey launched.

I’m slightly worried about the glass design of the shelters. In comparison to other municipalities, smashed glass is a far more regular occurrence out here in Surrey – so regular in fact that the glass/plastic was removed from most shelters several years ago.

Believe it or not, as I was getting to the Braid skytrain station yesterday morning I saw an old fat white woman lean against a garbage can near the entrance and pull her pants down and go to the bathroom on the floor, in plain sight of at least 5 people. She must have been mentally ill, but that's the most offensive thing I've ever seen.

Um, it's not the lady that normally gives out the Metro news at that station is it?

At first I was walking up from behind and I thought it was a fat guy, but when I came through the entrance I saw it was a grey haired old lady with a metal cane. I didn't look but a heard the unpleasant noise behind me as I went up the escalator. The worst part is, I saw her later on the other end of the platform. It's bad enough to do that, but then just continue on with your trip? I thought about picking up the red phone and calling the cops but there was no point as she was going to be gone.

I was in the elevator at Metrotown station going down late at night and in the elevator was me, my girlfriend, and this older drunk guy and this young drunk girl. After about 3 seconds of being in the elevator, she pulled down her pants and squatted in the corner and started peeing, while the guy yelled out, "oh no you don't". But she did. Me and my girl sank further and further into the corner as this stream of golden liquid crept closer and closer. What makes it worse is that elevator is the slowest in the world. It felt like the elevator wasn't even moving and we would be trapped in there for hours in this situation. But luckily, just in time, the doors opened and we jumped out and ran.

Sounds like a lead in to some sort of horror story.

Uh-huh!
See it's proof. I've always believed there is someone who makes it their lives purpose to pee in the metrotown station elevator every day.

I was shocked to see many of these public urination stories and found myself lucky that I never witnessed one, but unfortunately, I encountered a similar situation today. Thankfully, the kid and his mother were doing it behind the bus shelter by the bushes.

Not sure if you guys noticed, but it seems that SkyTrain once again, re-introduced the chime prior to announcing the next station. It sounded normal on the MK Is, but on the MK IIs, especially the second generation ones, it sounded a little odd (there wasn't anything wrong with the chime though). TransLink still hasn't corrected the announcements at Commercial-Broadway, at least none of the trains I was on. I hope the message they use is:

Quote:
The next station is Commercial-Broadway. Please change here for the Millennium Line trains via Platform 1 & 2.
At the stations, there are signs pointing to Platform 1 & 2, but as a tourist, that really doesn't mean anything to me because all it says is Platform 1 & 2! The funny thing is that TransLink installed one of the signs incorrectly. If you get off the train heading inbound to Waterfront, the sign at the north end shows Platform 1 & 2 pointing south and not north. Le sigh.

Man, Derek Corrigan is complaining about the Olympic Transit hubs and the noise it'll cause from 4am to 1am everyday. He seriously needs to open a can of SHUT UP!

He'd have a point if this was going to be a never ending situation.

But because it is only for a very short period of time. We can deal with it.

We have to get these people around somehow. It is not like we have an over abundance of subway lines going to every single destination. So we have to use buses as well. And they have to start at some point.

With all this talk about public urination - something I've always wondered is why public washrooms don't get built into skytrain/subway/metro stations. Maybe they could even put in automatic cleaning ones like those on the street.

It just seems logical that the more pedestrians a city has the more need there is for public toilets. Transit stations tend to be secure and maintained so why not include some washrooms at the stations. Maybe someone here knows if they have them in stations in Hong Kong/Japan... European ones mostly don't seem to have them.

^ there's the issue of drug dealing, drug injection, —, bombs...and perhaps, the cost to build and maintain such facilities.

All hub stations in Japan have washrooms and many non-hub stations have them as well (again, not all) but unlike here public drug use is not a problem (at least no where near our level) and people there, on the most part, are mature enough not to vandalize public facilities. Here, they would be tagged and busted in no time.

I wish our society was a little more strict on manners and respect. With maturity comes rewards!

Possessing dope in Japan is the best way to get deported. VERY strict handgun and drug laws.

It's less about maturity and more about social pressure. I believe they have more police per city sq. ft., more police power (they can hold you without charging you for 20 days)

Many police are assigned a beat on patrol. They're all in cars here.

I don't think the issue is developing washrooms or not. Take the Metrotown incident: if people go to the washroom in the elevator when the mall is right across the street, then obviously people won't go if there is a washroom inside the station.
