hmmm.. looks almost like a parking garage to me. it looks a tad tacky to me, but i can appreciate that's it's unique and different. i think it might age well
I noticed today some scaffolding covering the south sidewalk in front of the Opsal Steel building at 2nd and Quebec was going up. Anyone know if this has anything to do with that building and if so, what are the current plans with that site? I heard a while it was going to be deconstructed then rebuilt over top of a new underground parkade...
you are correct, it was the old Coastal Ford dealership, should nice, retail at the bottom filling in the gap at the area of main.
awesome thanks!
ya I saw the model recently and have seen the renders/plans.....this will be a very important project to connect main street if you will. That empty dead lot is a major drain.
I saw an ad in the Georgia Straight for Onni's V6A condo block at Main and Union. They're advertising the relaunch of the project with 40 homes under $300K

Guess the info I passed on a few weeks back was correct afterall, and to think I doubted myself.
Good to hear though, hopefully the 190Prior/901Main goes ahead as well.
The hoarding's up at the old Barcode site on Broadway near Alder. The hoarding is actually two containers placed end-to-end with another on top for the site office (It's Ledcor. Did they do Crossroads too? It had a similar but larger setup). They've started digging the pit, too.
The size and scope of the project have been reduced since the initial Board review in
2008, due to budget considerations. The Architects have worked with the Joint Building
Committee to produce a more modest design which still incorporates the programmatic
needs of the Garden while also retaining the principles which will form an integral part of
the Garden’s sustainability message.
The Planning and Environment Committee of the Board reviewed the revised design on
May 14, 2009. The design as presented in this report is substantially the same – some
minor changes have been incorporated to enhance the energy performance and to further
refine the building area with a view to further cost savings.
The revised plan for the Visitor Centre contains new educational, library, visitor
orientation and arrival spaces, as well as an informal food service facility. The Garden
Pavilion, in future, will accommodate larger rental and horticultural events. As an interim
strategy:
· the existing garden pavilion building (containing the restaurant and gift shop) will
be retained and will continue to accommodate Shaughnessy Restaurant with
Garden administration functions in the existing renovated entry lobby and gift
shop space,
· the existing education centre building (formerly MacMillan Bloedel sponsored
exhibit) is proposed as home for volunteer and educational activities.
