The Canada Line cars to have a much larger presence than the MK2 cars. And i love the huge front and back windows! I do love the fact that we have actual subway cars on our system. I dont know why people say it feels like a mono rail, if anything the MK1 cars are the ones that feel ike a mono rail to me.

Same here, I can't understand some people (not indicating those on this board) But the people in Metro Van... the train size reminds me of the New York Subway.

I thought I was the only person to notice that.

I was just in Vancouver last week and rode the Canada Line frequently. I can't really add much that others haven't already said, except perhaps a few nitpicky points: the connecting hallway between Waterfront and the Canada Line needs some advertising light boxes to break up the monotony (although I love the black and white pictures of the construction of the line); the bare concrete roof above the tracks at Broadway is sort of bland; it is just about impossible to see the station signs from inside the train to determine which station you are at (although you can see the station name on the interior LED signs).

The small negatives aside, it was incredible to hop on the Canada Line at the airport and be at my friend's house by Main and Kingsway in just over half an hour.

One weird problem I had, however, was on my trip back to the airport the TVM at Broadway would not let me Addfare my transfer to two zones as the machine flashed a message that my ticket was not valid. I only had $2.50 on me when I boarded the 9 at Main Street, so I thought I could just pay the Addfare with my debit card at the Skytrain station. Was I wrong?

I was on the Canada Line heading home yesterday during the peak evening rush. The train was packed, every station had people get on AND off, and the guy next to me was sleeping. I think the train is quickly becoming part of people's normal routines. When I got off at Bridgeport there were so many buses there and they were all quite busy. I didn't partake in the morning commute, but the evening commute seemed ordinary; very similar to when I used to commute on the Millennium and Expo Lines.

I too thought they had moved to the 3:10/6:20 sched. That's the one that takes 18 trains. If they are still running 14 trains at 3:45 headways while people get passed up on the platforms I offer no excuses on their behalf. Forget H1N1, stupidity is catching.

It could be that the compass is pointing at magnetic north, not true north.

Quote:
Michael Ignatieff puts a Liberal shine on the Canada Line
By Charlie Smith
Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff is trying to have his party take credit for construction of the $2-billion Canada Line.

In a YouTube video, Ignatieff suggests that the project was former Liberal prime minister Paul Martin's vision.

Ignatieff also praises former Vancouver mayor Larry Campbell, now a Liberal senator, who relentlessly promoted the project. It probably wouldn't have been approved by the TransLink board if Campbell and his then-COPE colleagues didn't replace then-councillor Fred Bass on the board with councillor Raymond Louie.
I couldn't agree more, Paul Martin was a much better Prime Minister than Ignatieff could ever hope to be.

Hahaha, I bet the contractor who installed it took out a compass and lined up the install based on where the needle pointed. I can just seem him asking the guy next to him, "the needle points north right?". I'm going to have to bring a compass one day and check that out.

Translink new release:
Quote:
It’s only a few days since Metro Vancouver’s transportation system became truly integrated around the Canada Line, but some observations made by TransLink personnel at key locations may help people determine the morning commute that’s right for them. Knowing when the heaviest times are at certain points of the system can help one either avoid travelling during those times or be prepared to face large crowds.

People transferring from Richmond and South of Fraser buses to Canada Line are dealing with the biggest changes. Trains are leaving Richmond-Brighouse Station virtually full during the morning commute, but alternating trains at Bridgeport Station arrive from YVR-Airport with very few passengers, so the people waiting at Bridgeport only have to wait one train before they can get on. That pattern appears to apply elsewhere along the line.

The “heaviest” times at various high-traffic locations around the transit system are:

* RICHMOND-BRIGHOUSE and BRIDGEPORT: 6:30-8am
* COMMERCIAL-BROADWAY: 7-8:30am
* PRODUCTION WAY: 8am-9am
* 99 B-LINE (to UBC from Commercial-Broadway): 7:30-9am

Adjusting one’s departure time by even a few minutes can make a big difference, and the increased frequency of the Richmond and South of Fraser buses can help make that happen.

We continue to encourage Canada Line customers who need to transfer to east-west buses to do so at stations other than Broadway-City Hall. Frequency has been increased on buses connecting with Oakridge-41st Ave (#41 & #43) and King Edward (#25 & #33), while Langara-49th Ave (#49) and Olympic Village (#84) also provide convenient alternatives.

There are also measures to deal with bus crowding. Some 99B-Line buses left Commercial-Broadway Station empty, to pick passengers from Clark Drive westward; buses that had been running eastbound not in service on Broadway “short-turned” at Main Street and went back into service westbound. The #480 UBC – the only Richmond bus that still runs into Vancouver – experienced very heavy loads today, as well, and shuttles were added to help ease those conditions.

The integration of services is proving to be a steep “learning curve”, and TransLink personnel in all areas are working with customers to make sure the process is as smooth as possible.

I rode the Canada Line about a few weeks ago on a Sunday. No problems with finding a seat on the train, but I find the A/C on the Rotem trains to be quite poor. It seemed that it was hotter inside than it was on the inside.

I got off at Broadway-City Hall to see what was so appealing about it but I found the inside of the station to be, overall not that impressive. Sure the station had a higher ceiling than other underground stations, but I just wasn't impressed with the overall blandness of the platforms. The station's entrance was much more impressive than the platforms.

I got off at YVR and I noticed that many people didn't get off the trains. Most tourists with luggage that got on the train didn't get a seat. YVR is one of the most impressive stations of the entire SkyTrain station, very close to the beautifully designed stations of the Millennium Line.

The station platforms are long enough for rarely used stations like Templeton, but terminus stations, Broadway and Bridgeport should've been a lot longer. 50 metres won't be enough when the Millennium Line is extended to UBC.

Hah, magnetic north shifts around. I think the simplest explanation is the correct one here... contractor error.

I think add fare is only for faresaver tickets - you cannot add them to transfers

Riders don't know where they are? Wow, we are slowly turning in to America. Though from working with the general public once in awhile, I know stupidity does have no bounds.

It's on the electronic signboard, said out loud and repeated, and station names can be seen clearly once you arrive if you look out the window.

Better start dressing people in those pillow suits, too, or soon they won't know how to go down stairs without falling.

And apparently I'm responding to an older post It was on the page when I first clicked, I swear!!

Probably a machine error. AddFare is possible on all tickets. What might have happened is that your ticket was demagnetized and lost its data or the magnetic strip was damaged for whatever reason.

One weird thing I noticed: one train has slightly different font for the LED signs...

I'm getting people asking me nearly every day where the Canada line is in Waterfront station. One guy today asked me if he was going the right way as we walked up the stairs towards Granville Square.

i think they need to use 98 B-Line bus to help ease those conditions. if so, what about the 399 B-Line next year?

the buses are not enough eh?
