Damn, son. This is starting to resemble one of those giants going up in China.

This is the biggest steel-framed building to go up in the States since the Sears Tower, which it will (obviously) surpass, and they're starting from the ground up with MASSIVE steel.

Will it rise quickly from here on out or is the core finished yet?

The core goes all the way to the top of the building...so it's not even close to being finished.

The tower is supposed to rise at a floor-per-week rate once the base is completed.

Right, and the columns that are being placed now are roughly a third of the total base height. So we won't really start seeing the office floors built until then.

OK, I know the core goes to the top of course, but I just ment the core at the base of the building. Sorry, I worded it wrong.

Is there a timeframe for when the base will be complete?

Thanks for the photo's nyguy.

Looks like they're starting work on the next floor on the inside portion of the Vesey St side of the building. A lot more rebar than I expected to be there. Earthcam shot is just too far out to see the cables on the big beams or rebar in those photos. Had no clue.

I still think the western plaza is going to take forever to prepare for a pour. Why is it done in a grid-like pattern? With what's there, is that enough after a pour to hold a crane on top of it? I mean, that's why I can't imagine all the steel going up within a month. How is that going to happen?

Well, when they finished pouring the Vesey portion of the eastern plaza, it was pretty much shaped like this one. The holes are just for trees, they put steel girders over the tree wells to make a flat surface, and then the crane comes in. With rebar, concrete is pretty much unbreakable. They also stopped working for the holiday weekend, and have to dig into West Street to place the plaza, stairs, etc.

@Wheelingman04: The floor-a week schedule, seeing how fast they put up the steel cage around the north crane, should commence by either December or early next year. This is going to make some sick aerial photos.

So has the two cores met up yet? or is the north core still shorter than the south? That base btw is one giant leviathan of a base. Awesome. Now if we can get the other 3 corners built this thing will look like some kind of building.

Well the concrete section of the cores have met, finally making them unified as ''the core'', but the steel cage section is short about two levels, still hanging on to that north/south thing. They had this momentary pause with the south core for a while, probably for welding and/or other site preparation. More steel will arrive in a few weeks, if not shorter.

Notice how the rendering on the fence is taken at such an angle that it points to the tower itself.

Well yea it's gonna be huge, just think of one of the old towers, just gradually getting thinner at the top.

The main skyline impact will be more or less to the top of the broadcasting Ring, or about 1,400 feet. It's basically sears tower size with a much thicker spire. This building is a monster.

Excellent observation!!! For the record I'm NOT getting into the whole old VS new, but the new WTC Tower 1's broadcasting ring at the top below the spire will give this tower a greater impact in the skyline than the other tower 1 did even though it may be by only 32 feet (1,400 - 1,368). It's exciting that the bulk of this building will continue to break past 1,400 feet!
