I say we extend the Canada Line to Londale Quay and scrap the seabus operation. I think this will increase efficiency and eliminate costs. The Canada Line will travel underwater in a transparent tube so you can see what's outside

^ that would be great....but it's going to cost a lot...esp. the transparent tube.

By the time deep water transparent tubes become feasible, we would probably have invented technology that would enable us to teleport trains to the other side of the inlet.

When the contract is up, I don't see Intransit taking their well-used trains with them. I'll have to look into this one a bit further.
That's why I included the defined terms (because it's not obvious). Capital "E" Equipment includes "Vehicles" which is defined as the rolling stock used to carry passengers.

It's just like the airlines do not own their airplanes and BC Ferries does not own its ferries.
They are sold and leased back.
It takes the assets off the capital accounts books and puts them onto the operating accounts books - but I'm not an accountant...

Not sure what would happen at the end of the 35 year term. The cars may still have life in them - there could be a provision for transfer of the trains in the termination section (haven't checked).

If they had another train parked on the other side of the platform waiting to leave the station, we wouldn't have to wait out there. Most of us would probably get a seat inside the train and wait. Then, when the other train comes in...they wouldn't have to worry about too many people on the platform.
I have never seen the 'East' side platform being used. Train always change track to stop at the 'West' side platform. I wonder why? May be it is reserved for 'special' occasion?

^ it's being used as a storage track as current frequencies of 4-minutes only require one platform....

Hm. Check out the article at Vancouver Sun http://www.vancouversun.com/technology/G...ting+oval+Canada+Line/1956233/story.html.
Looks like Google can use some extra help.

The security goons are over-done. Welcome to the Olympic Games - we'll reveal the location, time and place of the event on a need to know basis. Talking about what you saw at the games is a felony and an act of terrorism.

Tell me why we're holding the games again? Because we like living in a police state?

Tele Atlas (provider TomTom uses) provides maps to google so when ever they update google updates. However I'm unsure if google transit gets their info from Tele Atlas or does the transit stuff themselves.

Both Tele Atlas and Navteq (previous google provider) have mislabled the street i live on as RUE in front instead of Street, kind of annoying consider my street isnt easy to find and is properly labeled as street everywhere else except in my section.

The storage train on the east platform at waterfront departed for yvr-airport last week to make up for held up trains, so they probably serve a purpose to correct schedules if necessary.

An article at The Globe and Mail http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/food...ngues-are-worth-the-trek/article1272582/
I can't agree more with the article as I am also using the new line to search for good place to eat.

I just realized how outdated Google maps is. The map still shows the new Vancouver Convention Centre as a big land reclamation site.

Riding on the train today for some reason felt like riding a monorail...a very big monorail.

That's how it will work

Seriously though, I saw this happening years and years ago. They seriously underestimated existing demands for this corridor, nevermind future growth. It never made sense to me at all to build the system as it is today.

I'm both happy and sad that we're in this situation....happy that we have high ridership, sad on "WTF are we going to do now?!!!"

This line certainly won't be the Olympic corridor backbone that VANOC was hoping for. I don't know how exactly they plan on making this line work during the Games....the Canada Line is going to be get the bulk of the additional SkyTrain ridership during the Games.
They will supposedly be running VIP trains from YVR to Vancouver during the games. That's how it will work.

To conclude your training.

Mono = one
rail = rail

You were not on a monorail. Just a line that needs more train frequency.

Even though we are able to use only the west side platform when it has a 4-min frequency.....I personally think that we should use both side of the platform.

West side platform has a train parked...passengers please board the train.
East side platform has a train coming in....passengers exit the train.
Please board the east side platform now...the train on the westside platform will be leaving.
Oh, now here comes the train on the west side platform......etc.

They wouldn't have to worry about people falling down to the tracks when you always have a train waiting to depart the station.

I love how worried everyone is. I have been riding the line (due to a work project) everyday over the past 5 days and I have not had 1 overcrowding problem on a platform and i have been able to get a seat every time.

Also, there are still many "local tourists" riding the line for fun, i can tell judging by their comments, the fact they often have their whole family with them and because they scramble to get the front or back window seats.

Also, the single track section in Richmond seems to go by very fast, and could be in and out between 2 or 3 minutes, meaning 90 sec frequencies are very doable from Bridgeport to Waterfront. That alone would more than double the current frequency. Then when adding the third car, this again would add a significant amount of ridership.

Think of the 3 car C-line trains running at 90 sec frequencies as essentially 5 car MK1 trains running every 90 seconds or less. Now it does not seem so small.

All I know is the cars feel big inside, they are quiet and ride amazingly smooth, making transferring onto an old MK1 car a pain.
