And here's Marine Drive Stn with photos of the bus loop and waiting area. I actually think the loop at Marine Drive will work really well, with the one unloading bay, layover area, and loading bay. I wonder why they didn't use a slightly more complicated version for Bridgeport Stn, where there's one large unloading bay, a layover area, and maybe 3 loading bays, Bay 1 for Suburban Express Services, Bay 2 for Local City services, and Bay 3 for community shuttles. I like the idea of having large and less bays for station because it seems safer since there are more people waiting with you, even though they are taking different buses. Enough talking...

The plan in Appendix B even looks like it has a left turn lane - but it's not - you can see the sidewalk ramps at the crosswalk. I think the side of the median without the trees could just be raised concrete median.

I really don't want to derail this thread, but why has the city not re-instated the left-turn bays at Pacific and Davie? After suffering two years of clogged traffic from their removal, I'm about ready to take the pylons they've left there and shove them up the 🞵🞵🞵🞵 of someone at the City until I can see orange when they open their mouths. I note that they've also painted yellow lines, suggesting that the turn bays won't be reinstated.

I agree with you about how stupid it is that they havent reinstated the left turn lanes. I too would also love to shove those 🞵🞵🞵 🞵🞵🞵🞵 cones up someones 🞵🞵🞵. and I have no explanation as to why they havent put them back in place except that the city is so anti-car that they seem to take pleasure in causing needless traffic congestion and 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 of drivers. Theres no reason why they cant at least for now have turning lanes (yea i know about the street car thing but thats years away)

^^The city came up with a plan to redesign Pacific Boulevard years around 2003/4. The street is too wide and windswept. Have you tried crossing on foot from one side to the other at this intersection? It's a terrible experience as the distance is just too far; the car lanes are unusually wide.

So the detailed plan is to replant trees that can grow much bigger (the current ones were planted in boxes too small to allow for that); it also involves having a large centre median for a future streetcar as was mentioned along with narrower lanes.

So now with the nearby repairs needed because of the Canada Line, they're implementing part of the plan. The result should be a much better pedestrian experience. This street has a lot of potential so hopefully they'll follow through with the whole plan. There will probably be more pedestrians now leaving the Canada Line station and wanting to cross over towards the seawall.

There are plenty of other streets much more direct than turning left onto Davie, either east or westbound.

I just came back and noticed that the airport has absolutely no signage for the Canada Line inside the secured area. It does have signs saying taxis etc however. I didn't bother looking later, but they should have this in that hallway before exiting, since people are force to go through there before they go out.

I was on the Tokyo Monorail (completely automated system, like ours) today and was surprised to see that the Canada Line cars are actually much wider and spacious! It was super cramped.

Of course the monorail has much more than 2 cars... but still. Small cars compared to ours.

French is the other official language, French speaking Canadians effectively helped pay for the line with their taxes and French is probably the nicest sounding language in the world.

What you guys are asking for would be like the Chinese government generously allowing people from the Congo to settle in Hong Kong and then having announcements in Swahili on the metro system in place of Madarin.

I still can't believe how small the fonts are on all station signage. You have this giant sign board with tiny letters on it. Most people will have to walk right up to a lot of the platforms to see which direction is correct, etc. Poor.

Well, with all of the equalization payments headed to Quebec, it is unlikely any of their money found its way outside of the province.

Also, FAR more people speak many other languages than French, in BC. Chinese / Japanese tourists and residents pretty much make the economy possible.

There is a reason why every store down Cambie / Granville street has Chinese kanji all over it, even traditionally "Canadian" things such as... RBC or TD Bank.

Great. So traffic in that area's permanently screwed because of this bottleneck? My urge to do permanent physical damage to the land use and traffic planners in this City just went stratospheric. This is my proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.

i noticed that about the london tube also. "mind the gap" is a common announcement there, because of the gaps between the cars & platforms! (obviously) at some stations there's a step up or down from the platform to the cars also. maybe it was one of the first lines to be built in that system? and the cars are tapered so that if i didn't stand in the middle of the car i had to tilt my head to stand up straight. i didn't realize how good skytrain is in some ways.

You're quite wrong according to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Columbia:

Chinese languages is 2nd place in BC at 8.5%
French is in 5th at 1.4%

I don't have time to dig out the info, but I bet there are far more American tourists spending more money in BC than Asian ones. I also imagine the resource economy is far bigger than the tourist one.

I guess this all goes to show that the Canada Line announcements should be in French... how are all our immigrants ever going to learn the other official language? How are people going to learn what "sirop d'erable" is?
