Can someone please clarify whether the Coast Plaza will still shut down right after the Olympics and be converted into condos?

I understand that they had originally planned to do this conversion in 2008, but it was delayed until 2010 because of the Olympic crush. But is this conversion still going ahead as scheduled in the current economic climate?

It was never scheduled to become condos, it will become a rental building, and that is still the plan sometime after the games. Most of the staff will transfer over to the new hotel but some of them will be bought out.

Nice, thanks. The overhanging floors add interest to the facade.

at gay pride the dude giving a speach said that the staff is being screwed over and the community needs to stand up for the staff and fight for them... the dude was one of the guys involved with harvey milk from san francisco

I wonder if people will rally for them or not

New lighting/logo on top of Coast... my photo, taken this morning:

This is of the North side of the building, I assume there's one on the South side too.

Wow. That's pretty cool. That Harvey Milk movie was pretty good. I had no idea that the gay rights movement had such humble beginnings (ie, neighbourhood and municipal politics in SF).

Back to Coast. Who owns this chain now? I seem to remember it was a Japanese concern... is that still the case? And has "dude" said how or why ownership is screwing the staff? Are they not being transferred to the new facility in Coal Harbour?

And what amazing rentals those will be. The Coast on Denman has always been one of my favourite hotels (even if it was showing its age), mostly because of its prime location and stunning views.

Nice!

Probably one of the only ballrooms in the city with windows (exception: Pacific Ballroom at Hotel Vancouver).
Most only have windows to the hallways and vestibules.

wow!

man, if that da vinci was still on teevee, this is the sort of place they'd grab as a set before it opens to the public.

I like this tower! The interior looks great, it is the only tower I can think of downtown without a residential component (it is great having mix use downtown, but I wish some of the mix use towers were mix use office and hotel, or hotel commercial, or office commercial, not always residential), and unlike another hotel in our area that will remain unnamed, this hotel actually has a logo on top! Making it more of a signature tower at night then the other one, which is nearly 3X its height and will still remaining unnamed...........................

Pic I took Saturday from Coal Harbour Marina:

Despite its small size and uninspiring initial model pics, I think it turned out to be a fairly attractive building.

The Coast Coal Harbour Hotel seems to now be open including their restaurant & lounge/bar.

No new pictures on their website... just renders.

Nice pics, thx!

So what's the status of the Coast Plaza Hotel on Denman? Will it be converted into rental condos right after the Games?
