200 south has a lot in store for it. The city and some consultants are scoping a couple of big projects right now. That Gateway master plan was never adopted by the city, the site plan was however.

I think this has been discussed here before, but Oddfellows is significantly smaller than what Port O' Call was. It wouldn't even be close to the same type of place in such a small building. I think the best we can hope for in Oddfellows is a small lounge or intimate bar, similar to the Red Door.

Just an interesting bit of information... I recently found out that these properties are owned and occupied by Kingston family polygamists (the same family that owns the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas). The yellow shaded properties are the homesteads, and the red shaded property is the headquarters (not sure if that means the headquarters for one of the fundamentalist Mormon sects, or the headquarters for all the Kingston Businesses, which usually have "Standard" in their title, e.g: "Standard Plumming," ect.).

The Kingstons own well over a dozen businesses in the valley (including Mountain Coin on State St. and the Family Stores True Value on Redwood Road) and over 30 residences, including both houses on either side of a home my family owns in West Valley City (they were using our yard as a "tunnel" to send children back and forth between the houses until recently), as well as the house next to my current home in Central City (I can't seem to get away from them!). They are very private, but friendly enough, though their yards tend to be cluttered and junk-filled, what with all the kids running around.

Your map is missing a couple of the homesteads (or "wives' homes") around 700 North & Pugsley, and the red shaded area is not the headquarters for all the Kingston Family holdings---their business headquarters is a much larger warehouse between State and Main around 3700 South, if I recall. That red shaded building is probably an office for one of the business divisions.

Incidentally, Standard Plumbing is NOT a Kingston business; I don't think they even have polygamist ties. There's an incomplete list of businesses that are Kingston holdings here, though it's a bit outdated as some of the listed businesses have closed or consolidated.

From the very beginning, Salt Lake City was a planned city. One of the first things the Mormon settlers did was to lay out the gridwork of a town.

In 1855, Jules Remy, a visitor to the city, gave this description:

"We entered it by one of the principal streets and saw to the right and left gardens and orchards, in which the trees, especially the peach, were laden with fruit … All the streets are 130 feet wide and run from north to south and from east to west … The streets cross each other at right angles, forming squares of houses, or blocks … The majority of the houses are built of adobes, generally in a simple style, frequently elegant and always clean."...

I haven't been able to find any evidence that they own the Luxor, unless they also own MGM. Kirk Kerkorian owns most and is a well known billionaire. Unless I am missing something this may be a rumor just like so many of the apparent holdings of the LDS church. Too bad, I thought that would have been interesting.

I can definitely believe that they run the True Value on Redwood Rd. I was there last week having a key made and from the dress and demeanor of the employees, it felt like I was in Colorado City.

How did you ever get the "color points" of designated areas? How could this knowledge be obtained so easily. If you know these areas then why aren't they exposed and removed?

I am really surprised that a city that is really becoming a major city would allow this to happen under their own eyes...or is it certain blind eyes to certain situations.

I think the best way to solve this issue would be to legalize polygamy with regulations. I see nothing inherently wrong with polygamy, however, both the religious and underage marriage aspects need to be controlled or eradicated, for the mental health and well being of those involved. Let's move this conversation over to the irrelevant thread.

Not cool. Rumors are dangerous to spread. The truth is they plan on building a gigantic morgue. The one they use now to store corpses that they have exhumed for baptism is busting at the seams. That many temples, demands more morgue space.

Okay I will be more diligent next time. While I agree with keeping the forum on development related issues, lets not get so up tight that when there is a very brief deviation we have a conniption. I think forumers have done a good job lately on transferring discussions to irrelevant.
