Viewguy sf - thanks for the link. Yes, I am stuck here in the Fox Plaza - 50 square mile view and paying half of what my neighbors are paying for the same square footage and I did not vote for rent control when it was put on the ballot!
Nativeguy - the owners of the Fox Plaza are not to be faulted. The people of San Farncisco had a chance to own the Fox Theater but rejected the opportunity when put before them. The Fox Plaza has gone through several owners: it was built by Cahill Construction & owned by the for quite a long time; owned by Grovesnor for about 3 years (the place was a mess by the time they sold); bought by Archstone, a few years ago, who then sold the office part of the building to another investor, and ar trying to sell the low rise portion.
Of note, one of the elevators were out of service for a week so we had only one in service often.
Apparently a piece of concrete fell from the building recently and hit a woman on the head on Polk Street, so now the sidewalk is closed. I say apparently as the management has not give us any information as to why the block is closed. The press reported that a woman fell from a balcony - in the 38 years I have lived here no one has survived a fall from the Fox Plaza (at least 6 people have fallen to their deaths).
