Came across the following conference presentation on SkyTrain by a BCRTC staffer (to OC Transpo?) dated June 2009:

^ that was a really good read.

- The new Mark II's hold 145 passengers per car (up from 130 for the older Mark II models and 80 for the Mark I's...the Mark I car is basically equivalent to the capacity of a bus).

- snow melt heating systems and track switches are heated at 150 degrees!

only one official Park and Ride facility on the system plus a few private lots: objective was to encourage bus use and transfers but this was not widely accepted; with rising costs for automobiles, huge potential for increased ridership exists if more facilities were available

Centre platform stations only
–
although side-platform stations have smaller footprint, passenger circulation for alternate service is more difficult, significantly more track intrusions occur and overcrowding on narrow platforms is becoming an issue
•
No at-grade or exposed sub-grade alignment
–
major source of vandalism with thrown objects

maybe 43 will upgrade the 91 B-Line which extend to Brentwood. not only 25 but maybe 91 B-Line.

Officedweller thank you very much for posting this.

This page is referring to the lessons that Translink has learned from the snow event(s) of 2008. I couldn't help but think of all our debate about the Canada Line when I saw this.

The lack of vehicles probably has more to do with Translink's continued funding problems than anything else.

however, don't 100% trust these map for exact bus stop location. I was fooled by the Langara-49th station map, and got off 1 stop early (indeed there was a new #49 westbound bus stop right in front of the station)

The Toronto presentation is eclectic, I guess. It has a lot of unnecessary maps, photos, and tables with obvious errors.

I don't like the system Ottawa is planning. I don't know much about it or Ottawa's municipal politics, but it looks like a compromise between light rail and metro with all the disadvantages of both: deep, bored tunnels with frequent long-platformed stations downtown and a mostly grade-separated ROW outside downtown, operated with infrequent, manually-driven light rail vehicles. It's over-built for light rail, and has none of the operational advantages of a grade-separated system.

Pittsburgh appears to be bulding a 3 station "connector line" that terminates at a downtown hub - not a through connection. Very slow speeds on their lines.

The manufacturer presentations are interesting.

New signage at Commercial Drive this week. Finally, each platform's destinations are listed... and the name used is "Commercial-Broadway", matching the name used on tbe new strip-maps that appeared on SkyTrain on Monday.

since september 7, 2009, i think they will change?

i don't know. because the road work in richmond is not completed until october 2009. i hope they can complete the road work as soon as posible so bus can enter the station smoothly on september 7.

but the work is behind.

Seconded. You know sometimes it seems like the Translink people have never ridden any other rapid transit system.

They've fixed the bus stops, at least at Broadway-City Hall Stn. See photo buried in the Canada Line thread.
