Thanks for the pic! I love owl and has been waited for this sculpture to set up so that I can have another reason to do a full Canada Line tour

Had that issue today where trains at Bridgeport showed the subsequent trains were 1-2 minutes apart.

Miss this train? Bored the next Waterfront bound train in 20 minutes =) At Bridgeport, by the way, there was nothing indicating that this train was not in service. I'm presuming that the platform signs will change to:

"This train is not in service. Please stand clear of the platform."

~~~
Saw a WestJet Flight Attendant today using the Canada Line, not a small man. He placed his luggage right in front of him while sitting down. Proves to your there is A LOT of leg room. There's so much room I think they can at least add one more row of seats, not that I would advise that.
Its these 3 trains:
So did you get a free OMC tour?
And.. did that Bridgeport train arrive before or after the train from Richmond? If its after, then there's no reason to board that train at all...
Also, I just noticed from the schedule.. all Bridgeport-bound trains actually run faster. 6min from Airport/Brighouse to Bridgeport instead of normal 7 minutes...
I don't know about all bus loops having it... in multiple places there isn't just one waiting area for all of the bus routes and the distance between bus bays can be huge. It'd be a complex and an expensive move if that happened (and you know how TransLink is trying to get more cash from us a.t.m.). =O
I had also noticed the cab job loss issue today... I don't know how well they promote their services in the terminals or in the cities/towns about their services but that may be cause of their decline? I doubt the airport pays a lot of attention to them too by hanging up signs directing passengers to their services.
I've rode on the trains since Monday and I'm a little disappointed at these:
a) the reduced speed portion around the Queen Elizabeth Park curves is annoying at the best. They should have used their tunneling machines to bore straight thorugh I think. Drives costs up for sure but it makes things faster and is a more direct route.
b) the trains are already getting overcrowded during rush hour. Again they should have built longer platforms as part of the original design and have longer trains.
c) there are a few areas where the train seems to slow down for no reason. Take for example the portion between Marine Dr and Langara - 49th. At the end of the southbound tracks they slow down way before they even get out of the tunnel.
No I didn't bother riding it because I have to catch my connecting bus. It will arrive AFTER the train from Richmond.
Well there are provisions for an upcoming stn so those curves are going to be slow either way. However, in conceptual plans in the past, I believe that portion would've been at-grade, a way to reduce costs, but residents were vehemently opposed to it. I still think that portion should've been built at-grade, built with the QE Park - 33rd Avenue Stn. Would've provided excellent views of the park, road parkway, and light.
To be fair, many of the passengers are just there for sightseeing but then Waterfront, Broadway-City Hall, YVR-Airport, and Richmond-Brighouse are somewhat crowded, surprisingly.
Again, I have a feeling that would've been because of the future stn at 57th. I just hope it won't be built.
One train I took was running about 2 minutes ahead of schedule, so we waited for close to 2 minutes outside of Oakridge-41st station to let an invisible train to clear the platform... And I was near the front of the train, so I'm sure that there was nothing we can see that's holding the platform...
Its useless then...
The northbound train goes really really fast in that stretch.. I feel that it is the fastest stretch in the entire line.
But then, I was on the train that arrived Bridgeport 1min ahead of schedule and Langara 2min ahead.. maybe its just travelling faster than normal...
Just to chime in with the naming of the line.
Anyone who was around when this stuff was being thought up...
The Province suggested the name "Canada Line" not to appease the Federal Government, but rather to put it into the media that the federal government was funding it and give that federal government some exposure. It was in essence to say we will not forget that you gave us some coin to make this line.
The reasoning was that it connected the Ports and the airport, both which have partial federal control/regulation.
We have to remember that the RAV line was controversial and at the time it was proposed they did everything they could to distance it from the Olympics. They did NOT want it to influence the referendum that Vancouver had in order to even get the Olympics here in the first place.
I wonder if any consideration went to the Olympic line being potentially nicknamed the Owe line.
They should have used the opening of a new line to teach Vancouverites (and Richmondites) good subway etiquette:
- "PLEASE ALLOW PASSENGERS OFF THE TRAIN BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO BOARD" as a really really loud automated announcement when the train stops
and
"PLEASE MOVE INTO THE CENTRE OF THE TRAIN TO ALLOW OTHERS TO BOARD" as another really really loud automated announcement when people begin boarding.
Geez, people here just don't get how to use the transit system...
Interesting article but isn't Malcolm Johnson from the pro LRT side so of course he is going to be totally against The Canada Line. He is wrong to refer to the C Line as a metro because it uses light rail vehicles.
Yea, I really do hope that 57th Station won't ever be built. From 41st to Marine, that's the only fast section of the line where the train goes at near 80 kph.
Some parts are just ridiculously slow.
Studies have shown that RAV will increase journey times for most current bus customers, who will lose their direct express buses and be forced to transfer onto the metro." I remember reading a report that showed all but a couple journeys being quicker.
His letter lacks factual information.
^ ignorant, plus he doesn't know how to put two things together...as in interpreting things in a rather illogical way and then leading to ridiculous conclusions.
FYI, Canada Line uses heavy rail vehicles. The Skytrain MKIs and MKIIs can be considered (advanced) light rail vehicles, but I consider both Metros anyway.
These so called experts can say what they want but it's clear that most of the people who have ridden the Canada Line absolutely love it.
Skytrain is considered to a medium capacity system as opposed to say Toronto or Montreal are definitely high capacity metros.
i was on the C line briefly and found it to be smoother & quieter than Skytrain.
Hey Everyone! I'm from Calgary and am planning a trip to Vancouver at the beginning of next month. How long is the train ride from the Airport to Downtown via the new Canada Line? Does one have to change trains anywhere? And is there space, at least on one of the cars, to put luggage (I hope the planners who planned an Airport line thought of that!)?
Video at Waterfront Station, see something interesting?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVbrFKKgwg4
There are some naysayers in the Georgia Straight and other sources that people would never consider taking the Canada Line to the airport. On my car I can count 6 people with luggage.
YYCGuys, 26 minutes and no transfer required. Hopefully your hotel is within walking distance to a station. There is an area for luggage on each car, just look for a void space.
Yeah, they say that on one page, then you flip the page and there's a story about how taxi drivers are upset they have to wait half a day for a fare now instead of 15 minutes.
Seems some political undertones may be at work, people who are *hoping* the line fails
24 - 26 minutes, depending if you get off at City Centre or Waterfront. Both cars have spaces for people with luggage, and if you sit there's enough room to have your luggage infront of you.
You won't have to change trains, either.
