Hmmm... how about "加拿大捷運線" ? That is translated as Canada subway line, hahaha.

He hates the Canada Line because it came at the expense of light rail - just like other critics such as Stephen Rees and Malcolm Johnston. He's part of the same faction that wants to kill the idea of SkyTrain to UBC in favour of a freakin' trolley.

I think they should have just kept the name RAV line. It is simple, easy to say, and explains exactly where the lines goes to and from.

^ with the Expo Line and Millennium Line, the "Olympic Line" would have been most logical....not to mention, sexy.

Not my fault that the Canadian government decided to give this line such a stupid name, haha. Even in English, non-Canadians probably wondered if Canada only has one subway line or something because of this "Canada Line". This further helps with the US' joke that Canada has nothing but igloos here. Now we have one subway line :O :O :O

^ i don't think the federal government exactly forced the name upon us, it was rather Jane Bird and RAVCO that choosed the name....the alternative being "Olympic Line", but ditched because of political reasons. "Canada Line" isn't creative at all....I've always favoured "Pacific Line" as an alternative to the Olympic name.

I'm not that much of a fan of "Evergreen Line", but I can live with it.

If we were to have named it the Olympic Line, it would have been a bit of a joke when all the lines are combined and abbrievated:
E line
M line
O line

Well firstly, the extension of the line is completely new, opened a week ago. If you look at the overall area, Victoria Harbour is three MTR lines, excluding the Airport Express as I don't think anyone would want to pay a premium fare from Kowloon Stn to Hong Kong/Central Stn. Austin Stn and Kowloon Stn is essentially like Vancouver City Centre Stn with Granville Stn in terms of geographical location, except Austin and Kowloon are directly connected via bridge. Give this one a little more time to develop. And not half of them is deserted... Austin is really the only new stn.

YVR-Airport Stn
Permanent installation of public art sculpture at YVR-Airport. It looked much smaller than I imagined it would've been. I also thought this raven/owl/bird would've been installed hanging from the ceiling and not as a sculpture tucked in the corner by the tracks. Otherwise, quite cute.

^ if only the trains were longer, we could afford to waste some space for luggage racks like the Rotem trains Athens bought for the Olympics.

great pics!

Legally, is it possible to change the name from Canada Line to something else?

Also, coming home tonight, the announcement system had a bit of a spaz. Kept repeating something along the lines of:

"the Canada Line is experiencing major delays due to harsh weather conditions. Platform Two. The next station is Capstan. Richmond-Brighouse."

LMAO so they are expect the Canada Line to be under performing due to snow. Great. I'm not surprised if they are testing those announcements at the stns still.

I heard the guideway intrusion announcement, something like:

"A guideway intrusion is detected. Please return to the platform. You are in danger."

That announcement was loud, sounded louder than the "next train" ones.

Now... I really hope they install next bus displays inside the stns, specifically at the ones with large bus loops like at Bridgeport, Marine Drive, and Richmond-Brighouse. Of course, I wouldn't mind all of them with displays =P SkyTrain bus loops should have them as well.

^ yea, i believe the Canada Line uses some new technology of detecting something going beyond the yellow edge of the platform. I think it's slightly different from the M-Line.

I don't want to go to specifics on each station of the HK West Rail. A number of other West Rail stations does seem deserted by HK standard (though my last trip to HK was 2006). I checked that its per day ridership exceeded 200,000 in 2007, though its capacity is said to be 100,000 passenger per hour! Now connected with TST, it probably added up tens of thousands more but likely still below 300,000.

West Rail was not built by MTR by the way, but previous company KCR.

I believe there are sensors at the opposite ends of the platform, placed on the No Entry fences. I'll check on that.

Found this in the images I've taken yesterday:

I think they are running more trains during evening right now (notice the 6:49PM)? I wonder if this is just temporary for the first week.. I'd hope we got this kind of frequency all day!

Note: I walked up the stair to the mezzanine immediately after my train left the station, so the photo was taken about 1min after the previous train left..
