BC Olympic Pavalion

Figured if Saskatchewan had it's own thread for it's pavilion then we should too.

The BC Canada Pavilion’s Goals

The Province’s goals for the BC Canada Pavilion are designed to be complementary to the Robson Square goals so that the Province can take full advantage of the Robson Square initiatives and create a natural flow and progression from one venue to another.

At the same time, these goals will highlight uniqueness of the BC Canada Pavilion and its ability to introduce a new and “never-seen-before” dimension of BC. The BC Canada Pavilion goals are to:

· Become a ‘must-see’ attraction for international visitors, the foreign media, and Canadians from across the country in order to distinctively experience BC and celebrate latest BC achievements;

· Provide a stunning exhibition of BC, within a larger framework of Canada, that will portray BC in a non-traditional way, and be selective rather than comprehensive, focusing on the best and latest that the BC has to offer to the world;

· Be driven by the latest BC thinking and design to create a “never-seen-before” experience which has a ‘wow’ factor;

· Leave a lasting impression of BC on all visitors, inform and educate them, and generate curiosity and excitement about BC and Canada within all visitors to the BC Canada Pavilion;

· Take advantage of the previous BC Canada Pavilions, building upon their successful formula and leveraging their best exhibits; and

· Provide a unique hosting atmosphere and an alternative venue for Robson Square activities.

Some initiatives that will take place at Robson Square are:

· In cooperation with GE, the skating rink is being rehabilitated as ‘GE Plaza’, a public skating attraction for residents and visitors (to be completed by September 2009 with ice in place in November);

· From February 1 to 28, 2010, Robson Square will be used as the BC International Media Centre (BCMC), a state-of-the-art home for media entities, particularly non-rights holding broadcasters. The BCMC will be a full-service broadcasting facility designed to help journalists show the world what is happening outside official venues and across BC;

· A Games-time public programming experience at Robson Square, in combination with ongoing business and media activity, will ensure a dynamic and exciting atmosphere. In addition, a consistent creative look throughout the BC Showcase will help to sustain the atmosphere and to create a high profile for BC;

· BC Showcase is expected to be used as a hosting facility by organizations representing BC industries, businesses, communities and the Olympic family, especially in the period before and after the Games. During the Games, the BC Showcase is expected to be used primarily as a hosting facility for business VIPs attached to corporate and sponsor guest programmes. It is also anticipated that the general public will be invited to tour through this facility at designated times.

The BC Secretariat now seeks a proponent to design, construct and implement an innovative and exciting exhibition at the BC Canada Pavilion location. The BC Canada Pavilion will complement the existing programming of events planned at Robson Square, and will be housed in a contiguous area measuring approximately 6,200 square feet of dedicated floorspace. While the Robson Square initiatives will provide media, entertainment and business hosting opportunities, the BC Canada Pavilion will provide an innovative exhibition of the leading edge BC creations. Together, these initiatives will reinforce the perception of BC as a dynamic, creative, innovative player on the world stage and will ensure that, during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, this entire area is designed to promote BC to the world and host activities for families, communities and businesses.
