Remember that the City's Higher Buidings Policy (or the specific rezoning bylaw for Shangri-la) prohibited any signage above the 450 ft mark.

That just doesn't make much sense.

You're talking about a city that doesn't like billboards, remember?

Not that a logo is necessary but some sort of lighting feature should've been included and in fact the city should have demanded it. This for all intents and purposes is our signature building, yet it fades into obscurity at night as if it isn't even there.

The city hopefully gets that and will adjust accordingly.

As for hating billboards, I have no problems if they are done right ie. on Granville and Robson and other major shopping areas. I didn't mind the one on the Lee building as well, it was kind of cool.

I think our city council just needs some fresh minds to add a bit of life back into the city. The current policies regarding this type of thing seem to have the ability to — the life and fun out of any kind of proposal put forth until we end up with a watered down end product.

Then they could still use lighting features, I think.

Then they should change the name! Like Shangri-la at Georgia Tower (pulled that name out of my —)

Just walked by the Shangri-La - a torrent of water was spewing out of one of the suites at about the 15th floor level - it was actually quite nice for pedestrians walking by, given the heat! Anyway, anyone hear what it was?

You probably don't want to know, just go with the "water" theory.

OK, that was a ton of water that was coming out of those windows - it looked like Shannon Falls! Even I don't host parties that good

that's so sweet! finally a building downtown tall enough that it can be see from Richmond.

actually that reminds me. when I was at an open house for Shangri-la at the central library years ago, there was one nutcase who was against the building because he thought it would block the view of the mountains from Richmond. turns out he was right afterall!! lol

Someone was asking for a night shot of Shangri-La. Here's a noisy handheld one from May.

Nice pic. Looks like a shot from the begginings of a zombie apocalypse movie.

They'd just be what we call "part time" residents.

That or they can't afford to pay their power bill.

Hmm, people were definitely in, in May. So, that adds more to the theory that they are seasonal residents

Judging from the 40+ that were for sale in May, the majority of the building must have been for sale back then, too. Only 19 for sale now!

Get 'em while they're hot, hot, hot!
