what's next?

5 yrs of waiting possibly longer? the next one is gona be inside the woods...

the next next one could be the one going underbroadway, that one won't be done for another decade...dont wait for anything as big as this one again, it's gona take too long

what else could've been bigger than the expo and olympics...

i think we'll be in an era like the 90s ndp decade pretty soon...

gateway, evergreen, but nothing here in vancouver.

i'd be happy if they put up sth over burrad, or at least the fraser river. have the whole city in wifi-mode...light up some good billboards along the tracks like hk..

I'm not looking forward to the Port Mann twinning at all, and how it'll affect transit ridership especially on SkyTrain.

All we have to discuss is Evergreen and UBC. The Canada Line was by far the most interesting to discuss.

Evergreen will be interesting once it actually gets going! I have long waited for the day where we will see true progress (such as the boring and guide-ways being put into place).

I am looking forward to gateway, I love bridges (can't wait to see the new Port Mann rise, its going to be a massive bridge). And i doubt it will take any ridership away from skytrain, simply because it is going to have a heavy toll on it and it services a different area then that of Skytrain in Surrey (if one lives near the skytrain in Surrey and they want to go downtown, to use the port mann is considerable back tracking and the toll will cost you probably between 6 to 10 dollars to use it (both ways)).

it's kind of interesting how the skytrain on the eastside is all elevated and on the westside/downtown it's all subterranean (including any presumed m-line extension). as the city's rail infrastructure develops, i have a feeling that this will become an interesting psychological component of the popular declension of neighborhoods. should make the city's "branding" exercises even easier.

and if the street car network ever gets going... even more so.

each method of transportation carries a diff mentality...

it's interesting to see how things are always focused on small, short, skinny styles here...and mostly low key stuff, no fancy lighting, no fancy roof tops...

That's what's best about VANCOUVER'S system. A lot of other systems, including Toronto and NYC, from my experience, don't have the greatest frequency.

I'm just curious. There's only one exchange (waterfront station), are they going to build one more exchange station? A little bit inconvenient, if you want to transfer to Burnaby, but have to go all the way down to waterfront station and then go east from there.

Skytrain map

According to that map, too bad they don't have plans for an exchange at Oakridge-41st station, to go east to VCC-Clark station.

A bit inconvenient to go down to Waterfront station, and then go east, when it'd probably be quicker to transfer along Oakridge-41st, or at Langara-49th to go eastbound.

that map is not accurate at all... broadway/commerical is east of broadway-cityhall.
btw broadway is 12th and oakridge is at 41st just for comparison the map is way off

you do know that the millennium line is going to be extended from vcc clark to ubc eventually?

The map is not to geographical scale. Whereas, Oakridge-41st is at 41st ave, VCC is much further north (at about 4th or 5th ave). The two stations are more than 3km apart (as the crow flies).

When the Millennium line is finally built out, there will be another transfer point at Broadway-City Hall. As many here have suggested, however (and I agree), that is probably about 10 years away at the earliest, although I'd love to see an extension of the Millennium to Broadway-City Hall to coincide with the expansion of M into the Coquitlam. Otherwise, Commercial-Broadway will be a nightmare.

I'm pretty sure Broadway-City Hall will be our new nightmare when the Millennium Line is extended to there.

I don't know if someone has already mentioned this, but the main building at Waterfront Station does not open until 5:30am. Anyone wanting to take early Canada Line trains to YVR or Richmond has to access the platfrom from the entrance at Hastings and Granville.

I guess this means that Canada Line trains leave Waterfront earlier than the Expo or Millenium line.

Or the SeaBus...
Could the early hours be for airport workers?

So do you build a line (elevated vs underground) for the 100,000 passengers per day or the few hundred/thousand people who live close to the right-of-way?

let's hope Translink has the foresight to not have that happen again.

Let'sfirst of all tht Translink will be able to get it's porton of the funding for the Evergreen Line.

Maybe they will decide to build the the Surrey extension 1st.

Tuesday August 18 ridership even exceeded the estimated 70,000 reported in the Province. The final count is:83,000

Quote:
On its first full day of operations Tuesday, the rapid transit line attracted 83,000 people, exceeding InTransitBC’s expectations. That number could swell Sept. 7, when the 98 B-Line bus service ends and other buses are rerouted to connect with Canada Line stations.

Richmond’s Stephen Rees, a former transportation planner, said carrying 100,000 riders daily largely depends on how bus riders react to forced transfers.
does anyone has good estimate of the suburban buses (those will connect to Bridgeport after Labour Day) riders count?

There's really only a few of those buses. I'd say a few thousand if you count trips one-way.

They run 15 mins during peak times and 30 mins regularly. Usually only filled to seating capacity which is about 50 seats, thou at times it'll be packed to 100 or so. Even less than at time 20 during midday and late evening.

Then there are the peak period buses (400s), which usually are filled only to seating capacity as well.

Thou who knows, ridership might increase with them connecting to brighouse. Those buses are notorious for being late and I mean very late up to 20 mins. I've been on it several times where it took nearly 12 mins to travel a few blocks in downtown due to how they're routed through burrard station.

I think there's still a lot of people just taking a joy ride, which would inflate the numbers a bit.
