Once construction is under way on the new 'Borg' courthouse, should we create a separate thread for it?
I don't think it requires, deserves and needs one. There isn't enough action happening these days, so it isn't competing with much in the Salt Lake Forum.
The way they are slowly dismantling the Shubrick, I almost wonder if they are trying to recycle materials. Similar to when they "took apart" the old Joe's Crab Shack at University Mall in Orem.
I've seen HUGE buildings disappear in mere hours with a trackhoe and a steady line of dump trucks.
Perhaps the feds picked a LEED demolition contractor?

IT is part of the LEED certification to reuse as much as you can. Other than some interior fictures going to the Green pig, I have not heard of other destinations for some of the stuff. My guess is that most of it will go through some sort of recycling process and be reused, much like a good chunk of the rebar in Crossroads and Key Bank were recycled into new rebar for City Creek.
I was just commenting to a coworker about how lively the area around 300 S and Main has become with outdoor dining. Three new places have opened up within the last few weeks. Even though two of them are chains, it is good to see a mix of local in there. What a world of difference it makes. If you haven't had a burger at Esthers, get in there. It is great. And a good lunch time deal.
Good to say the Bayleaf and some of the others on the 100 block get closer to opening.
That is great news for the 100 S - 200 S block, four new places. This block has always seemed to have the most problems with places staying open. I was aware of Bay Leaf and Beerhive but not the other two. I hope they can hold on while they wait for the new shoppers and residents associated with CCC, hopefully there will be enough traffic not.
While Barbacoa is a chain I'll support any locally owned and operated chain like this. I love getting Barbacoa when I go to the movies at Gallivan in July. Now I can just walk over, rather than stop at 9th and 9th on the way.
I'm an idiot. I went downtown today, I even took the bus/trax the whole way, and when I tried to take my first photo I realized my camera's battery was dead.
Well anyway it was pretty much done moving when I got there. I'm glad it's finally across the street, there's no turning back now.
There was an article in the Deseret News last week about a new Pharmacy building to be built at the University of Utah. I just found out from the news that it is designed by NBBJ. I've been in the pharmacy since they finished the rebuild. It's very nice. That whole block is great. The Pie, and Big Eds, and Blue Whale and all that.
You must be talking about the pharmacy drug store on 200 south, and not the new pharmacy school building to be constructed. You had me lost as to why you were talking about the pharmacy store and not the pharmacy school.
