inthe long run, center of the universe still has more to offer, including the 30km light rail~~

i think it should also dig a waterway from lake of on. to the atlantic, so it can become the largest port too...

maybe also come up with some artificial mountains

Yep. Busy enough but certainly not crowded. Busiest stations were YVR, Waterfront, Oakridge. Some other observations:
- YVR station is too long and narrow. A real struggle between people trying to get on and off with suitcases.
- Saw a few people struggling with baggage on stairs at the stations where there's no down escalator. Maybe the elevators are prominent enough.
- There should be some sort of announcement at Brighouse announcing to change trains for Richmond/YVR etc. Lots of folks were on the wrong train.
- RCMP on the Richmond trains are going to get bored silly.
-Way Out signs not always readily apparent when disembarking.
-Nobody was checking fares but there were lots of cleaners!
-What's going to happen with those empty lots beside King Edward and Langara?

Apparently, one set of doors broke already. The train stopped yesterday for several minutes while they tried to close them. Eventually they were closed and they decided to keep them shut, which made it very hard to get off! Watch out for car 106.

Wow! How old are you and your friends? Your friends sound like spoiled teenage girls. "Gee, I would take the Canada Line from Downtown to Langara, but because the platform lengths are only 40/50 metres, I'll take the Cambie bus or drive instead." WTF?!? Seriously, how old are you (and your friends)?

I just returned from taking a trip from Waterfront Station to Yaletown/Roundhouse, went and had a coffee at the Starbucks right across the street from the station entrance. Got back on at Yale/Round and travelled to Broadway/City Hall, got off and back down to Waterfront.

My observations:

1) Nice, smooth ride.
2) Much wider feeling cars than the Expo/Millenium line
3) I noticed a substantial number of individuals carrying suitcases; I was surprised actually.
4) Broadway/City Hall station is really pleasing aesthetically.
5) All the trains were quite crowded (no place to sit and many more standing). This was between 12:30 and 1:15.

Overall, a wonderful addition to the public transportation system in the city.

Yaletown should get more lunch traffic because of the line - one or two stops from the CBD and you can return on the same fare if within 90 minutes.

BTW - At City Centre Station, both passages to Vancouver Centre Mall and to Pacific Centre are open. Pacific Centre's still lacks prominent signage.
On the Vancouver Centre side, London Drugs is still renovating (window displays tout a new kitchen department) - so there's no entrance to LD yet at mall level - probably complete in the Fall?

so exactly what i have posted on this site has been repeated MANY MANY MANY times... the platform size, the singletracking, are just some of the things i have been complaining about.

I have said it in the past and i will say it again, this is what you get with a P3....

only wonder how bad other p3s are going to be....

I took a ride from Waterfront to City Centre today and loved it. Anyone who's not a GIGANTIC SPERGIN' TRAIN NERD (or NDP spin man) will. The seats actually fit regular sized Caucasian people, the ride is super smooth, and everything is really slick.

And the station lengths are completely adequate.

The only complaint is Vancouverites still don't know to let people out before they get in. I suggest some gigantic spikes in the floor that impale anyone within four feet of the train when it stops.

Things you would be complaining about? You wouldn't even know about these things if it weren't for us.

There's nothing wrong with P3's, and we've debunked it several times already.

Really though, I doubt you really care about any of the issues for the greater good of this province. There's no genuine concern. As long as it goes along with the NDP platform, you'll support/oppose it no matter what, and that's why you'll never ever have any credibility here in this forum.

You could be for BC Place renovations one day, and then be against it the next as shown earlier this year....I wonder why?

lol don't pull me into that, i never said that. They were disappointed by the design of the line, but it's the crowds that really gave them a bad first impression of the line.

I didn't even ride the line yesterday, I was working for opening day logistics at YVR....and it wasn't a pretty sight in my eyes. In fact, i haven't rode the line yet...but i might do it later today.

Fair enough. I apologize for painting with too wide a brush.

This, a thousand times this. Impalement unless you're standing to the side of the doors. I think it was worse yesterday because many of the first-day riders aren't frequent transit users.

haha, Deasine and I actually had to tell people to let the passengers off before rushing the train at Waterfront yesterday before we boarded.

^ I crave for HK's "Please let passengers exit first" station announcements.

Spent two minutes on the train today (to Waterfront and back from City Centre) most enjoyable!

It does feel like a "big city" to be able to step off and be in the Pacific Centre

The crowds were abnormally high because it was free to the public.

The platform sizes are moot point, a two-car Canada Line train holds as many people as a four-car MKI train. The platforms are wide and are capable of handling crowds.

Singletracking, I've run calculations that for a train to enter a single track zone, dwell for 60 seconds, and get the heck out of there, it would take 125 seconds to that whole thing. You can comfortably run each branch at up to 3 minute headways, and even push it to 2.5 minute headways, which would mean the combined headways would be 90 or 75 seconds.

The main problem is that we only ordered 20 train sets (40 cars) which means we'll be living with 6:20/3:10 minute headways for awhile. I hope that it's written into the contract that the consortium is responsible for orderring all cars leading up to the ultimate capacity of 15,000 PPPHD.

Hah. Yes, I also wish people would stand to the side so you don't have to fight through a mob of people waiting to get on, to exit the train.

It *seems* like common courtesy, but... I guess we need drawings and arrows on the platform.

Can't find a link to the poster, but its the section in waterfront at the doors where you can continue to the West Coast Express, the Seabus, or Expo / Millennium lines.

This one right?
Yep. Thanks for the pic. The 'you are here' can shoot in from the left, left of the Lonsdale Quay sign. Also North Vancouver needs to shift upwards and to the left. Right now West Coast Express looks like a gateway to North Vancouver, and North Vancouver (with its strong central top position) also looks like the headline for the entire poster.

I actually like the starkness of the poster quite a bit. I'm guessing its an attempt of giving purity to the lines, the stations, and roughly their locations. But because it presents just few key detail information that information needs to be correct.

Hey so is London Drug's lower level entrance to the Vancouver Centre mall closed off permanently or just temporarily for yesterday ? Me and my friend thought we'd get smart and get onto Canada line through the underground tunnel but saw it got blocked off
