If memory serves, there was a proposal to have about 18 storeys above the LCBO at King Edward & Rideau when it was first built. I forget all the details, but it was linked to some sort of public investment, I think involving a theatre on the ground level. Never happened obviously, but perhaps it will one day.
Wow, nothing like having the street heavily weighted to the south. The height seems slightly tall.
Just imagine though if you owned the LOEB...oops Metro / LCBO site, they must be thinking cha-ching

NOTHING in Ottawa is "slightly tall". If anything, EVERYTHING is slightly short.

I believe the idea was that the LCBO could eventually be replaced by a tower, which the zoning would permit. With all the recent development down that way, I wonder if it might not happen sooner rather than later?

That would be very cool. I would love to see more towers in the market area, or around it's perimeter, at least.
Rideau would seem more likely, no? It would be interesting if the Dworkin building could somehow be incorporated into a new complex, but I suppose that would be unlikely.
Didn't the first 9 floors colapse while building CP I??? CP II made it to the 10th, let's hope these ones stay intact
Where did that come from? It's not true. The only collapse nearby was at the Richcraft (Galleria) during excavation, they didn't shore it up properly and after a big rainstorm part of the abutting property on Daly fell into the hole, including someone's car. But no 9 storey collapse on Rideau.
that's what i heard from one of the tenants that live there... there was also an evacuation last year on first 9 floors once the building was done, due to someones floor falling through??? i was surprised too because i haven't heard it anywhere in the paper or such...
