Any ideas on the ridership levels from first week to the end of the year? I think it will be pretty slow up till Labour Day, then slowly build up from there. Monday should be pretty busy though. Just my gut feeling.

Also I am just realizing how boring this forum is going to become for a while.

For the last few years I had Vancouver's tallest (Shangri-La) the Golden Ears Bridge and the Canada Line to eagerly watch on this forum, now all 3 are going to be completed!

The Evergreen Line and other rapid transit expansions are only in the design or study phases and Gateway is far from seeing any mega structures rise or semi-completed interchanges. For me a lot of the pre and early construction is stuff that I only check up upon once a week (since it moves so slowly...) but when there are photos up dated almost daily of progress, that is when it becomes fun.

I guess the next projects that I will be checking daily eventually is the Georgia tower, although it seems to be moving at a snails pace right now and I am still fearing a cap off at hotel height.

Oh well, let us enjoy the last few weeks of this thread!

I was not prepared for riding today, so I didn't bring my camera. All the pictures here are from my phone, which then I realized when I got home that it wasn't set to my usual settings so everything's quite bad quality, not to mention, I didn't have enough battery to take all the photos I would've wanted to take. Nevertheless, I was able to take photos on some stations and areas in stations that no one has been able to see [Notice my "Canada Line fare" above. It lasted longer than regular TransLink fare: two hours!

YVR-Airport
We'll start our photo tour from the airport. There were Canada Line attendants all over the airport, directing those who can take the exclusive inaugural tour. They had bright blue shirts on and looked a lot like the MTRC Ambassadors, which is definitely a good thing. Aside from a few girls who were constantly texting instead of holding their signs, everyone was quite professional and friendly.

The ticketing area feels so open and airy. I have to say I was very impressed. Yes, the architecture on the Canada Line is very basic and sterile compared to the Millennium Line, but the atmosphere and environment of the Canada Line stations is so much more open. Like I told you guys earlier, the signage is by YVR at the Airport Stn except for the platform, which is a good thing. What I found weird was the "YVR - Airport Canada Line" station sign was also done by the airport and had incorrect colours (used YVR green instead of the Canada Line blue) and had incorrect font scaling. Sorry I didn't take a photo of it.

Yeah it was open for all of TransLink, City of Vancouver, City of Richmond, etc.

But I don't work for any of them

But I was able to get on for a reason, and it had nothing to do with connections unfortunately.

Bridgeport
The major transportation hub for all suburban express bus services, Bridgeport Stn reminded me like a miniature version of Lougheed Stn. This station is quite wide as well, but not as wide as it could've been. Thankfully, it's a combined service stn.

Richmond-Brighouse
While Richmond-Brighouse Stn looks a lot like Aberdeen and Lansdowne, it's much larger and airier and will be large enough to handle the passengers from Richmond waiting for the next train to be arriving. This would be my favorite stn in Richmond.

Marine Drive
Really, I was trying to take a photo of the TV screen, which was the only screen actually displaying Global News and TransLink information (well... it was disconnected so there wasn't actually any news...), but I caught a photo of the elevator sign instead. InTransitBC/TransLink stuck stickers indicating where the elevator and area of refuge is in relation to the platform, which is excellent. They sure don't look like stickers.

Going to Marine Drive from Bridgeport, it did feel like a roller coaster ride when the train went down below Oak Street Bridge, up again for switch tracks at OMC, down again, and then up again across the North Arm Bridge. Saw two bike riders.

Oakridge-41st Avenue

New area of refuge, a great safety feature. My only criticism is that the area of refuge symbols is different from the ones indicated on the TransLink signs. Clearly, these ones are designed by InTransit BC, just like the signage for the entire system.

The trek from Oakridge to King Edward was slow because the train had to slow down for those really tight turns.

Broadway-City Hall

An amazing station underground. I know it's not big, but it feels big. Finally, Vancouver seems like a larger city now.

Waterfront

Love the architecture in this station. I think this one would be my favorite underground station in Vancouver. Notice the TVs at Waterfront aren't hung from the ceiling.

That's all I have today sorry. They are testing announcements today, I randomly heard "outbound platform" really loudly at Bridgeport. No announcements made about next stations on the trains for some reason, but they weren't displaying the final terminus on the LED signs either, so I'm guessing they were turned off for some reason.

The way the platform signs work is that once the train arrives at the station, the time for the train disappears. As soon as the train closes its doors and moves, the platform sign moves everything up. Works quite fast.

Thanks for the pics. You know, I thought there would be some sort of art on the walls of the Waterfront corridor... I guess I was correct.

I was working for YVR today as today was the family event for airport employees and everyone that was part of the Canada Line construction. They expected 15,000 people to ride the train today, but there were maybe only 3,000.

I'm working again on Monday, and we're expecting a gong show. Today was just a test run for opening day.

I also took some pics of the Canada Line's airport station from platform level! I'll post them asap.

no it does not say it was canceled. it was never fully funded.

its kinda hard to cancel something that was never green lighted

unless you have some magical skill we should know about?
