You should email that list to Jhenifer att he buzzer blog - she'll make sure it gets to the map makers.

Also, I don't like the new colour for the B-line - makes it harder to see - the green was better.
Does the 99 go to boundary? I thought all trips ended at Skytrain?

The 4 does go to Phibbs Exchange on a limited service. During the evenings it follows the 210 route all the way to Upper Lynn Valley.

What's the point of Park n Ride when you can't park there any time?

Oh, and in the first map of Vancouver City Centre...it says "Waterfront" and "Canada Line Waterfront"

??

Even if you have to exit the old SkyTrain station to enter the Canada Line one (not platform to platform transfer) it is still one station- "Waterfont."

I think the precedent has been set with Broadway and Commercial; two different platforms mean two different station names. Except, in the case of Waterfront, they didn't really come up with different station names, so they just tacked on "Canada Line" to the name of the station.

If you look at most cities around the world, each station complex, regardless of how many lines/platforms it has, usually has just one name. I think this makes a lot more sense (taking it to the extreme, could you imagine some of those huge Japanese stations having 12 separate names because they serve 12 separate lines?). Then you just have very clear signage about which line within the station each station is serving. Obviously having the Millennium Line serve the same station twice would make this a little confusing, but since it looks like they're going to reconfigure it anyways, the problem should sort itself out.

I also agree with lightrail regarding the B-Line. When I looked at the map, my first thought was "🞵🞵🞵, did they cancel the 99 B-Line?". It just blends in too much with the regular lines. I thought the green worked well, it was distinctive, but by having them all be green, you're indicating that they're still not quite as high on the pecking order as the trains.

Well, Paris doesn't. The RER station at Gare du Nord is "Magenta" and at Gare St Lazzaire it is "Haussmann" - but yet the platforms are numbered as part of the main station.

With regards to the Millennium Line, I keep on thinking there's something technical that prevents Commercial Drive & Broadway to have the same name: can the on-board computers allow one line to have the same station name twice?

Perhaps if they can amalgamate the name for the two stations to one name for both platforms: Broadway-Commercial (to separate from Broadway-City Hall for clarity sakes)?

26 to 28 trips each way during off-season, which is already more runs than more than half of the routes in the suburbs..

That's why its a mistake in the map as Phibb Exchange should have a purple "4" on it.

Good point, I guess it just seems infrequent because the 99 goes to Commercial so often.

I don't know much (at all) about ATC, but even if that was a problem, it seems incredible easy to work around. The "official/technical" stuff, hidden from public view, could still say Broadway, even if both stations were labeled as Commercial on their signage.

lightrail, I know not every city does it, but nonetheless, I do think it's a better way to do things. More importantly though, is that we're consistent with all the signage.

Heh. For a moment I was quite worried that the TVMs were outside the station, exposed to the rain and elements before I clicked through.

I thought that the Sexsmith park & ride lot was to be sold by TransLink to provide funding for the Canada Line shortfall - i.e. one of the "funding gap" measures (along with scope changes, etc.) to bring the project within the funding envelope. So it may close in future, even if it's not closing immediately.

Nice catch.

Canada Line linking Vancouver and Richmond to open Aug. 17

By Kelly Sinoski, Vancouver Sun

METRO VANCOUVER - The new Canada Line linking downtown Vancouver and Richmond will officially open to the public on Monday, Aug. 17, three weeks ahead of Labour Day and three months ahead of schedule.

Commuters can get a free ride on the 19-kilometre rapid transit line, which will run from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. on opening day to accommodate any potential crowds outside the morning rush hour. No bikes or pets allowed on opening day.

The line will open for regular SkyTrain hours the next day, with the first train leaving Waterfront 4:50 a.m., Richmond Brighouse at 5:05 a.m. and the airport at 5:10 a.m.

The journey between Waterfront and Richmond-Brighouse takes about 26 minutes and costs a two-zone fare of $3.75 per single trip. Passengers heading to the airport will pay a surcharge of $2.50, bringing the fare to $6.25 per single trip but their tickets will be good for 90 minutes.

However, the surcharge won’t come into effect for at least the first four months of operation as TransLink has agreed to defer the Canada Line-YVR add fare until 2010.

The $2-billion Canada Line, which is part of the government’s $14-billion investment in public transit, is equivalent to a 10-lane road between Vancouver and Richmond and is expected to take 200,000 one-way trips off the road system. It was originally slated to open in November but the date was then pushed ahead to Labour Day.

It's now opening another three weeks earlier than planned even though work is still continuing on many of the 16 stations. The new line boasts trains that are longer, wider and have more capacity than trains on the existing two SkyTrain lines to accommodate passengers who will be hauling luggage to and from the airport.

The project, overseen by TransLink subsidiary Canada Line Rapid Transit Inc, has had its share of controversy since it was conceived four years ago. At the time, several municipalities opposed the project, saying it wasn't a priority project in Metro Vancouver and raising concerns about the way TransLink was funding future transportation projects.

The project, originally cited to cost $1.5 billion but in the end cost $2 billion, was nearly killed several times but survived.

It then caused a furore when those building it decided to build a cut-and-cover section along Cambie Street, where merchants complained the dug-up construction zone was prohibiting customers from accessing their shops and killing their businesses.

Several merchants moved out. Others, such maternity shop owner Susan Heyes, successfully sued TransLink, InTransitBC and the Canada Line Rapid Transit for causing a nuisance. She was awarded $600,000 in damages earlier this year.

Meanwhile, TransLink expects to have to subsidize the Canada Line for at least four years before ridership is high enough to reach a break-even point.

The cost is a large part of the reason for the financial crunch that has TransLink looking for as much as $450 million a year in additional funding to operate Metro Vancouver's transit system and its major roads. The rapid transit line was built as public-private partnerships, and in agreements with its partners, TransLink took on most of the "ridership risk."

That means TransLink will have to subsidize the until ridership hits forecast levels, which the regional transportation authority acknowledges will take years. The Canada Line isn't expected to see its projected 100,000 riders a day until 2013.

I'm not sure exactly about the "Canada Line Waterfront", however, it might be because there is a stationhouse on Granville to access the Waterfront CL Platform. To access the Skytrain at the CPR station from that point, one would have to go down two flights of stairs, walk along the platform itself, out the other end down a passageway, up a flight of stairs just to access the CPR station. I would think that the powers that be would want to restrict people traversing the CL Platform to access the rest of the station & Skytrain network, instead prefer people use the street to access the CPR station.

Now, had the connecting tunnel been at concourse level (impossible because of the terrain) , or had a separate passageway that avoided the CL Platform, then that would be a completely different story.

That being said, I guess the stationhouse at Canada Place is not called "Millennium/Expo Line Waterfront", as the similar process exists in the reverse direction.... hmmmmm..
