Edit: Those screens only in the YVR direction of course, not going to downtown.

YVR is having some sort of displays/kiosks at major stations not sure when those go in though.

Looks like the debate is over on whether or not Translink will uniformally call the rapid transit system - Skytrain - the answer appears YES.

Check out the new system map published at Translink, the legend shows "Skytrain Canada Line".

Yeah totally!! I drove by the new River Rock extension right across the casino itself today, and at the entrance of it on the ground floor, even the signs over there include "Skytrain" (not even Skytrain Canada Line) as connection to Bridgeport Station.

^ were those signs by Translink? You gotta wonder if all our harping of it not being branded as "SkyTrain" here in the forum had some impact. A lot of Translink and InTransitBC officials do frequent this board for educated opinions and views.

For one thing, I'm quite sure they aren't very happy with my 40-metre platform rants.

Well I'm sure they pay attention to SSP: Vancouver. Really, maybe some of us should be hired as part of the TransLink Executive Board. I don't mind 3/4 of their salary

I don't think so. Those are most probably done by River Rock because those are signs attached to the entrance of the new River Rock building (I'll see if I can take a pic next time I go through there). I wonder if Richmond Centre will put similar "Skytrain" signs in the No.3 Rd/Cook road mall entrance.

Check with your students union - I would think charging an add-fare on the U-pass would be a violation of the contractual agreement

The West Coast Express requires an add-fare to the U-Pass

^Yes but West Coast Express is a limited service, peak hours only, commuter train that only runs on weekdays. It also only runs one direction when it is in operation. Its not like you can catch the WCE at Waterfront at noon and be in Port Moody 20 minutes later, eat fish and chips at Pacho's and hop back on the train heading downtown 20 minutes later. It goes Mission - Waterfront in the morning, and Waterfront - Mission in the evening, and only Monday to Friday.

Its not even comparable to running regular SkyTrain service to the airport 7 days a week.

I was told on the Canada Line tour that to get to the airport everyone must pay the add-fare. That includes U-Passes, Ministry Passes, monthly passes, day passes, etc.

Now, how they are actually going to enforce this is a total mystery, hence the "fare holiday" until the Olympics.

I think the biggest problem for residents living outside the TOD like myself is not the C-Line trains themselves, but the ways to get to the nearest Skytrain station. Many of us have to walk for a while to get to the nearest bus stop, wait for the bus, and then bus to the station. I'm lucky myself, because it only takes me around 3-5min to walk to the nearest bus stop for 403, which is quite frequent. But others, aren't so lucky. So they don't like the inconvenience of this. Hence, the purpose of the P&R, so that those residents have effective alternatives to driving the entire way.

Delta wants direct bus to continue for a year

If direct bus service between South Delta and Vancouver cannot be maintained once the Canada Line opens next month, Delta council would at least like to see it continued for a transitional period.

Civic politicians approved a motion this week to send a letter to TransLink requesting the direct bus service between Vancouver and South Delta be maintained for one year following the opening of the Canada Line.

Once the new rapid transit line is operational, TransLink plans to re-route all buses traveling to Vancouver from communities south of the Fraser River to the new Bridgeport station in Richmond where passengers will have to transfer to the Canada Line to continue their commute.

Over the past few years, since the changes were proposed, Delta council has received countless letters from residents concerned about the discontinuation of the direct bus service to and from Vancouver.

Many have raised concerns about the multiple transfers that will be needed once the Canada Line is up and running. Currently, the 601 and 602 buses take riders from South Delta to downtown Vancouver via Granville Street.

Once the Canada Line opens, the riders will be re-routed down Cambie Street, which means many passengers, including local students who attend private schools just off Granville Street, will have to make more than one transfer to get to their final destination.

"Recent correspondence provided to council indicates significant transportation challenges for school age children attending private schools along the Granville Street corridor," reads the letter to TransLink signed by Mayor Lois Jackson.

"Significant trepidation has been voiced related to safety and transportation time. We urge your consideration of our residents' concerns and ask that TransLink review the possibility of a transitional service period of one year where one direct bus would be maintained."

The Canada Line, which adds 16 new stations and 19 kilometres to the Skytrain network, is expected to be operational by Labour Day.

I read from one of the files that the Bridgeport Park and Ride would initially offer 610 parking spots.

there are also parking restitctions on the park n ride - when you enter it it says "park n ride parking" i think 6 am - 8 pm or 6 pm and than it says Casino Parking from 8 pm to 6 am

I don't know how they will montior it - but what if u want to go to an event downtown? can you park there during the casino hours? is it going to be strict and enforced?
