Not sure if some of you have seen it.

Some Thoughts:
I know we prefer shorter messages, but I find the announcer system to be too fast. It sounds like we are in a rush for something.

Glad to see Bridgeport has a specific announcement. Also glad to see that the trains do say you must have a premium ticket for Sea Island bound passengers, though I'm not so glad we are implementing an add-fare.

^ Seems slow at some sections that LIM/SkyTrain could have just jetted through.

*correction: seems PAINFULLY slow...at least compared to what we're used to. LOL, imagine if we had LRT instead!

Not only did RAVCO drop the ball with lowballing the capacity at 15,000 pphpd (and not mentioning whether it should be based on normal capacity or crush load capacity - the 15,000 pphpd is likely based on crush loads), they also low-balled the travel times at 25-minutes.

Did they? It's all automated, should be easy to test.

Stop saying the line is under serviced before it opens.

I think it might just be an artifact of video compared to an actual in-person experience; if you check out similar videos of skytrain, it seems just as slow.

^ remember though that they are still testing. There is still a lot of construction related work plus a lot of commissioning that needs to occur thus every video you see of a slow train does not necessarily reflect the actual operating speed.

That would be extremely limiting to advertisers. This wrap is the first one that covers from roof to floor on the outside, the others I've seen only cover the lower side.

The big LCD TV screens (the ones you see at some E/M-Line stations) are now fully installed at Richmond-Brighouse and Aberdeen stations, and probably Lansdowne too.

I was thinking of those TVs: I think the ones at busier stations (i.e. Waterfront, VanCC, Olympic Village, Broadway, Oakridge-41st, Marine Dr., Bridgeport) should have YVR related information like departures and arrivals...

Edit: Those screens only in the YVR direction of course, not going to downtown.

Seems fast to me. The camera operator must have A.D.D. and could not leave the zoom button alone - when zoomed, it looks a lot slower than it really is.

Yes. And self-serve check-ins.

Frankfurt Airport includes train departures in the airport's departure boards. So you see:

New York, JFK, Gate C56, 13:50, Now Boarding
London Heathrow, Gate D44, 13:56, On time
Koln, Gate T4, 14:00, On Time

then at the bottom of the monitor

Note: Concourse T is the connected Train Station

In Europe, you can book tickets through on the train - either starting of finishing your trip. Show up at the train station, check-in and then don't see your luggage until you get to your destination. Just like connecting planes.

It's being tested in full operational mode. The trains are running on their planned weekday schedule, just as if people were riding on them. So what you see right now is what you get on opening day.

And it does seem painfully slow. While it does get up to speed in parts, it just seems to take forever to get there, and then it looks like it takes longer to slow down. The trains look like they just stroll into the stations. The LIM trains just seem so much zippier.

It's not a deal breaker for me, but I think if LIM technology was used we would have had faster travel times.

as briefly mentioned in another thread, Skytrain travels more distance (Waterfront->Edmonds) in 23 minutes.

I hope Canada Line can at least move a bit faster over the bridges. The stretch between Marine Drive and Bridgeport seems so slow compared to how Skytrain moves over Skytrain

So, what is the actual time from Waterfront (or Granville, the one I'd be taking ) to YVR if it is slower than they claim?

I can usually get to the airport in a car in under half an hour~

Remember that travel time would also be coordinated with headways.
With the long headways, they don't need to run the trains really fast through the line

You may be right... the train goes at super speeds when he zooms in and slows to a crawl when he zooms out in some spots. I think also the wider guideway may give a misconception of going faster. Example, when you're going at 60km/h on a 2.7m wide lane, it feels fast. When you're going 60km/h on a 3.6m wide lane like on GOLDEN EARS WAY, it feels sloooooooooow.

It may be 25-minutes now, but just imagine how much longer it'll add to that 25 if the future stations at 33rd Avenue, YVR 2, Capstan, and 57th Avenue are built. *shudder*

The only stations that should be definitely built in my mind somewhere down the road are 33rd Avenue and YVR2.

Capstan should be built. I know it's not a long walk away from Aberdeen, but when that plot of land is developed, a station at Capstan would be ideal. 57th Avenue is really unnecessary to me though... YVR2 for sure, when the int'l airport expansion takes place. 33rd Avenue as well.

Looking back into the videos, what is with TransLink and their inconsistencies...
"This train is for YVR-Airport. Please change at Bridgeport for Richmond-Brighouse. Passengers to the airport must be in possession of a premium fare ticket."

Let's look at a message for the Millennium Line at Commerical Drive:
"The next station is Commercial Drive. Transfer point to the Expo Line via Broadway station. Passengers to downtown Vancouver, change here."

First of all, while we know Bridgeport is the next station, the regular user may not. I hate how our messages varies between lines to lines now. Funny how MTRC in Hong Kong is now standardizing all their messages on the used-to-be KCR lines (yes... in Hong Kong, the MTRC acquired another rail company KCR).

It really should be...
"The next station is Bridgeport. This train is for YVR-Airport; passengers to Richmond-Brighouse, change here. Airport-bound passengers must be in possession of a premium fare ticket."
