The Shangri la is not going to be adding any signage (although it is funny on their website they have to fake the sign because this city is so bland in some areas *cough* lighting *cough*). I know many of us were really hoping to see the Shangri-la add at least a little light to the city (especially since it is the city's tallest and its primary 'signature" tower now).

Also, don't spread fake rumors people. I believe that is against forum rules. Any mod should know that...

nice pic raggety13, that exhibit does add some interest to the base of the tower for sure.

What's with the blown-up Polaroid "art" of what appears to be dis-privileged kids?

One's inability to "read" art, or rather to see something of value in it, is generally more about the viewer than the work, itself. We see what we can, based on who we are, etc. I, myself, quite like these pieces. Maybe we should try to be a bit more supportive of constructive attempts to add to the cultural fabric of our city, rather than taking the easy route of the armchair pessimist.

Agree somewhat with dreambrother808. This is a welcome change from the abstract nonsense we typically see.

Love the photos, love the colors in them especially. Really breaks up the seafoam around there!

Agreed.

I love the photo wall! Judging by the clothes, I think they're Tibetan children.
Awesome portraits.

I thought they were Inuit but the photographer's name makes me think that they are Chinese or a minority ethnic group in China or Mongolia.

I really like this photo exhibit. If this is an indication of the calibre of installation the VAG is planning for this space then I am very happy. In fact I hope this is precedent for the VAG to partner with other developers.

Any idea when the restaurant(s) in the podium are going to get off the ground?

They are village children from central China, the details are back a page or two.
The restaurant was set for a Sept opening, but that info is dated, to be honest I don't even know when it's scheduled to open now. I'll find out.

WHAT! No sign on the Shangri-la? Isn't that part of the tower though? Like a Hilton, or a Hyatt... you'd think the people high up at the top of the hotel chain would have a say about what is put on their tower.

Shangri-la doesn't own the building, they operate the hotel portion only.

I walk past the VAG display almost everyday, and the public really seems to be drawn to the art, especially with the bright sun we've been having.

Any news on the patio at SL? They have all the chairs and tables, but they are missing out on all the patio weather we've been having..
