lightrail, here is the info you need - it's only a one zone ride to Lougheed Station from Coquitlam on the 151, which is used in this example:

In addition, all stations along North Road from Hwy 1 to Foster Ave. are in both Zones 2 and 3 (think Boundary Road in Burnaby/Vancouver where all stops are in both Zones 1 and 2). Although I don't have photos to prove my case, I am sure fellow SP members who have taken the 97B can attest to the fact.

I ride between Braid and Coquitlam Stations, on the other hand, requires a 2-zone fare.

Thanks. Seems Translink can't get anything right - their maps are obviously wrong. Lougheed being in two zones makes sense, but the official map really should show it.

Canada Line public art program would feature work on loan from commercial galleries

Vancouver City Council will be asked to give its blessing tomorrow (July 21) to a Canada Line public art program that is set to open with artworks on loan from commercial galleries.

The program is to be funded, essentially in full, by InTransitBC (the private company responsible for constructing and operating the Canada Line).

As outlined in a staff report, the plan is for the city to waive an annual $20,000 City Retail Compensation Fee (money collected by the city in exchange for allowing the lease of retail operations in Canada Lane stations), provided InTransitBC then redirect that money to the public art program.

In addition, the program is expected to collect a minimum of $80,000 annually from InTransitBC, through the contribution of two percent of gross revenues from retail leases.

The first set of artworks to be displayed will not be new commissions, however. Instead, the project will feature pieces on offer from individual artists and private groups, including the Douglas Udell Gallery and the Vancouver Biennale. The artworks have been selected by an advisory panel that includes collectors Colleen and Howard Nemtin, architect Joost Bakker, gallery owner Douglas Udell, as well as InTransitBC CEO Jean-Marc Arbaud and Canada Line Rapid Transit CEO Jane Bird.

How long those artworks would remain on display is not mentioned in the staff report, which explains that "the limited time before the Line opens precludes new artwork commissions for this first exhibition".

Later on, according to the staff report, the focus will be on curating works from artists working in non-commercial practices or without gallery representation, and working with artist-run centres and non-profit galleries. A long-term administrative structure for the project has yet to be determined.

The Straight has requested an interview with acting managing director of cultural services Richard Newirth, and is awaiting a reply.

i had always thought that Lougheed Skytrain Station is in zone 2 and Lougheed bus loop was zone 2/3.

I remember trying to walk from the west end of the station to the bus loop end with a 1-zone zone 3 bus pass and was told I didn't have the right fare and that I should walk under the station to get to the loop. Crazy.

The trouble with SkyTrain is that there is no large-format, instantly recognizable logo or brand to identify stations. It would be prohibitively expensive but I would love it if all of Vancouver's underground SkyTrain stations had large neon fin signs to identify them.

These condos directly behind yaletown station are hideous. Its too bad they weren't expropriated.

Didn't the Yaletown station originally incorporate some brick work that was then demolished to make way for the current design?

The station is nice, if a little generic.

Not even opened, but some of the Canada Line trains already have advertisements. You can see Oakridge had their ad on the train... but I wonder if that's just for the event. Anyways, I saw a Canada Line train with the 2010 olympics ad... Looks great since the blue/green colour scheme on the train matched the ad completely, aside from the mascots on the ad, I would've thought the design is part of the train itself.

There aren't any brickwork plans that I am aware of concerning Yaletown-Roundhouse... there were people in this forum however that didn't like the generic design of the station and wanted some brickwork to match the station with its surroundings (numerous formerly industrial buildings in Yaletown have brick so...)

the entrance of the Yaletown station seems small/narrow. It looks like the smallest entrance of all 16 stations. If the station gets more uses than expected it will become a choke point.

btw , is Yaletown station platform already built with 50 meters?
