IIRC, a couple of teens were hit while walking along the guideway in 1985, before the lin opened.

Got it! 70-metre train for a 65-m plaform.

it's great to have Davie open again. feels weird after so many years.

but i'm really dissapointed with the yaletown station. it's got to be the most underwhelming station of the bunch.

I'm curious... where are we getting this "65m"number? I thought the stations were max expandable to 50m.

The above ground stations probably be espanded to more than 50m but the underground stations would be extremely difficult to expand to more than 5o m.

A bit off topic

When Translink gets around to extendeing the Expo Line platforms, how long will they be?

You must have heard that on the old ones. All MKIs announcer system has been officially replaced by the MKII system (yes they were different). Now, you hear the transfer point messages in all of the trains.

The station entrance does seem a bit small....but, it's one of the airiest stations (being right next to the deep False Creek tunnel) and it's also one of the few stations with a 50-metre platform to start with, as it would be difficult and expensive to extend it in the future - given the platform's depth.

What precisely make them so hard to extend past 50m? Is there actually anything blocking them, or are they roughed in to 50m? If its the latter its really less a question of being hard to go past 50 as of being easy to get 50.

Now, my personal take is that this talk of dropping in a third and fourth unit to the artics is foolish, and any platform extension should be extended to allow a two car train of the existing cars.

^ some stations have platform island (in the middle and tracks go on either side)...I guess it would be hard to expand when you reach the part where the tracks merged together again? Or are the two different tunnels far apart all the way along the route?

Also, consider the elevated station in Richmond..

Any centre platform station will allow for enough room for 50m platforms.

The 65m metre figure assumes that the ends of the train will hang past the platform but all doors would remain accessible from the 50m platform.

The sidewalk in front of the Vancouver City Centre Station entrance has been poured - just in time...

Wow... they allow for a 7.5m overhang? That's quite a bit.
