Distant based fares!!!!!!!!!!!!



Such a simple answer once the fare gates go in. No more stupid zones. Also, the idea of the levy is ok but it is currently way to high. Maybe it should be just another extra 25 or 50 cents to the regular fare?

Yep for sure. And I hope that comes with farecards. In the mean time, make it another zone if you must, why the added complexity?

It would be easier to understand if it were part of Zone 3.

Presumably it isn't a "cash grab" as much of a "source of subsidy" for the expected low volumes of passenger traffic on the line.

The YVR segment is more about establishing connectivity rather than demand justifying/warranting a rapid transit line.

Yeah, I really would not bother lugging all of my luggage, and kids, and their luggage, on to a train for the same price as a taxi with door to door service.

Not the most cunning plan.

It would have to actually be a significant difference to even come close to persuading me to do that

I agree. Faregates make it so much easier for distant-based fares. That's what most cities are using.

I don't think that transit is really meant to appeal to families anyways. Families are automatic carpools.
You don't see many families jumping on for 2 or 3-zone transit rides.

That would be "distance"-based fares.
But then again, maybe they are in the "distant" future.

On off peak hours, they should allow children on free with adults.

Toronto airtrain? You mean that ex-amusement park ride, two trains hauled by cable between the two terminals? Not much of an airtrain.

the airport one, watever it was called.

the one with mutiple levels of roads underneath its tracks. that train itself is slow and has a male voice, but i was saying about stuff around the airport. We have mostlly parking lots and just one level, but t.o got a multi-level road system...

Well, yeah - each airport is different. Vancouver airport actually has three road levels, but they're stepped back, so not as obvious

I really wish there as more community art on our Canada Line. American Transit Agencies all put community art now at every station on existing and new public transit infrastrucutre.

I also think there should be enhanced messages at Bridgeport Station to make sure people know what train it is bound for, especially for the trains going southbound. At Bridgeport Station, when the doors open, there should be a message:

• "This train is for YVR-Airport. Passengers to Richmond, please take the next train for Richmond-Brighouse."
• "This train is for Richmond-Brighouse. Passengers to Vancouver International Airport, please take the next train for YVR-Airport."

I also believe there should be enhanced messages just for Sea Island stations.

• "The next station is, Templeton, for YVR's Long Term Parking Facilities and Pick-Up/Drop-Off Zone."
• "The next station is, Sea Island Centre, for the Air Canada Centre and Park-N-Fly Facility."
• "The next station is, YVR-Airport. For the Domestic Terminal, please follow the signs marked with the Canadian flag leading to the pedestrian walkway. For the International Terminal for Departures and Arrivals, please follow the signs marked with a globe leading to the escalators and elevators. For the USA Terminal, please follow the signs marked with an American flag, also leading to the escalators and elevators. For the Hour/Daily Parkade and the Economy Parking Lot, please use the escalators and elevators. Thank you for riding the Canada Line."

A message just when the doors are open at YVR-Airport:

• "This train is for Waterfront, to Downtown Vancouver. Passengers to Richmond must transfer at Bridgeport Station for trains bound for Richmond-Brighouse. Please ensure that your validated ticket remains with you when riding the trains and leaving the stations. Fares are checked regularly and randomly anywhere within the Fare Paid Zones. Note, passengers travelling within Sea Island to Sea Island Centre and Templeton stations can travel free and do not require any fares. Thank you for riding the Canada Line."

Also notice, those who were doubting the completion of Olympic Village, in the second video, it's pretty much done.

^ I agree that the announcements should include more wayfinding info but that's way, way, way too much for an announcement. Keep it short, sweet, and to the point. I'm quite sure people are capable of reading the signs after getting off at YVR Airport station....and for one thing, YVR's signs are quite clear and consistent.

The comment in the last video did mention some art coming to YVR. As for the other stations, I'm not sure. You'd think they'd have something.

seriously, where are we? Having a message that long would be so stupid. It would probably have to start playing as it left sea island centre and would still not be finished by the time it has reached the YVR station. people are smarter than you think, even tourists. i am pretty sure 99.9% of people who are at the airport will be able to figure out that the red maple leaf leads to canadian planes and so on
