Hmmm that Local Area map for Broadway City Hall has the Olympic Village Station on the wrong side of 6th Ave. Ugh.

Might want to change the title of the group. Crombie did not say the line would open in July. He said they think they could SET the opening date in the third weekl July. That is a big difference from opening in July.

A farewell trip on the 98 would be more like a good riddance trip. I find that bus worse than the 99. I took the 98 to and from work several times a week for a good year and a half, and took the 99 to and from school for a good two years.

Sometimes, if I don't have to go to Richmond, I would take the 10 trolley bus instead if the 98 B-Line is really full. The 10 isn't much slower than the 98 B-Line... better than being passed by a bus multiple times on a rainy day

Which blogger? Regardless, the Canada Line is known to open earlier. Gordon Campbell said BY Labour Day... not ON.

I posted the bus route changes/additions a few pages back. The new ones would start on Labour Day.

I find the ride on the trolleys to be a lot smoother anyway, and the 10 would benefit a lot more people living along the route. Even when I'm going from say Broadway to Main I may opt to use the 9 instead of the 99.

1. There likely will be a premium fare to the airport. It hasn't been confirmed how much it will be, but it is likely to be more like an add fare, and not something crazy like $10. Airport staff will NOT pay premium fare. That being said, there are 3 stations on the YVR 'arm' of the system - Templeton, Sea Island Way (outside the Air Canada hanger), and Airport. Travel between these 3 stations will be free. There will be a park and ride at Templeton.

2. The official opening date that has been so far made available to the public is Labour Day Weekend. In reality, we are currently geared to go live BC Day Weekend.

3. The Canada Line is NOT SKYTRAIN. Not in technology, not in operation, not in staff, etc. The Transit Police and the Fare System are the same, but the staff/operations/parent company are NOT. There will be differences that you will notice on this system that will make this clear:
our uniforms will be different (green and black)
attendants will be MORE VISIBLE than skytrain attendants (we will be in most stations, most of the time - there will ALWAYS be someone at Airport station)... customer service is a *major* focus for the Canada Line
and
because we are paid by Translink not through fares but through quality/train availability, our stations will be cleaner, more free of graffitti, and better maintained (otherwise, we will not get paid by Translink). Note that this isn't necessarily a dig or comment on skytrain operations/maintenance, I'm just pointing out that our incentive to make money is based on a completely different system than the skytrain (fare revenue only), so there is direct incentive for the stations/trains to be clean and well maintained.

4. There will be MORE farechecks than on the skytrain. Many more... BUT.... there are no turnstiles... all stations are designed for them and they are slated for installation late 2010/early 2011.

5. The trains are larger than skytrain trains (twice as wide), and hold more people (a full train can hold about 400 at capacity, plus there is luggage room). They are coupled in pairs, and will remain in pairs only. (You cannot connect more than 2 cars). This is how the cars are designed.

6. Trains will run 3-4 min apart, except for the 2 richmond arms, trains may run up to 7 minutes apart in off-peak hours. There are LED signs on the platforms in every station telling you the realtime arrival time of the next 3 trains.

8: Forgot to add: It is FAST! Waterfront to YVR is approx 24 min.

Edit: If you are interested, there will be a Station Open House - on Saturday, June 27th at Oakridge - 41st Station. The station will be open between noon and 5 pm and will be part of the Design for Diversity Event. You will have the opportunity to access the station and board two trains sitting in the platform.

I jumped on the #9 from Granville to Commercial as it came first. The #9 beat the #99 by about 20 seconds... and that was with stopping at almost every stop.

The #99 is great, but it does dwell at each stop longer.

I doubt that it will go in service before BC day because Granville Mall opening (July 25th) is the last celebration before the whole line opens. That was noted in another post as well...

I was wondering then that was going to re-open. I assume this means everything will be back to normal come LabourDay bus changes.
