There are only nine cities in the U.S. with a population of one million or more. Austin is the 15th largest city in the nation.

Austin's metro is about 1,700,000 though.

It's definetly attract me! I'd love to come down there, see the progress and spend the weekend walking around Austin, especially along the river and taking pictures!

I thought about this a while and realized I didn't go to NYC, or Boston, or Chicago or any other city to look at tall pretty buildings, it was for business, sports, food, and attractions, including concerts. The bigger the skyline usually means more people, more stuff to do so I guess that's why I ended up going to more bigger cities with great skylines than not.
How many days do ya'll think a tourist visiting Austin needs before they've seen it all, not including sport tournaments or festivals? I've spent 5 - 7 days in cities like Chicago, NYC, Boston, and DC and not gotten bored, I'm thinking maybe 2 in Austin at most and I'm done. And before anyone is offended by that, I've lived here since '82 and love it. Great place to live, but I'm not sure I would go out of my way to visit if I didn't live here.

city population is overated. What matters is the metro. IF you go by city population we are bigger than Atlanta no Cincy no Cleaveland no Minniapolis no boston no miami no denver no. All those citys have smaller populations than Austin. But the metros and overall regions are much bigger. Whell exept for cincy. We are in the 30s right around lasvegas and charlotte. Bigger than Nashville but smaller than Indianapolis.

I agree with your examples of NY and Chicago. But they are known for their skyscrapers. Austin is known for it music and street level vibe. I cannot think of another city for it's size that has such vibrant night life. I love all of the new development. Also I think that it has added to the downtown character, but Austin is so much more than some buildings. Lastly Austin is NOT a city of 750K people. The Metro area is 1.7 million. That number is a measure of the true impact and importance to the region.

Agreed, but we continue to out grown many of the cities in front of us.

It attracts me also, but my wife could care less. What she loves are all of the downtown places to go. I guess it is a bit of the Chicken or the egg talk. Either way our city is shaping up very nicely.

This is the first notice of the launch of a spectacular website with a flash piece of downtown Austin unlike anything done before. The website which combines the skills of a pilot, writer and two web design companies and a vision of normal Austin guy will be a focal point for anyone who has an interest in condos in downtown Austin. The website will be complete in about a month.

I have a passion in Austin too. I love it. It's my favorite city. Not much ghetto spots, clean alleyways, friendly citizens, beautiful landscaping, the culture, and many more.

I am with you! Austin is great...and so is San Antonio....both cities are the best in texas. I just wish we had more skyscrapers here in SA. I lived in Austin for over 7 years...so I know the city. I just though there were over 1 million...but 750k is close.

No unfortunately I dont have a video of just downtown but i should work on that asap. I was just downtown today and man the austionian looks great. its just hard oberserving all the great buildings we have driving and making sure you dont go the wrong way down all the one way streets we have.

So did anyone get any photos of the fireworks? I missed them actually. We left too late. That's what you get for trying to get 6 adults and 2 kids together and go. I caught some of them from the back of my sister's truck on Ben White at the overlook by the train tracks. Just as we rolled up to Saint Ed's, the grand finale was already going and we missed the last bit of that.

By the way though, there's a sweet photo in today's paper of the fireworks that was taken from the 45th floor of The Austonian. Check it out.

I only got to see the fireworks at Bellaire Blvd from Houston. It was popping up everywhere, even McDonalds! Bad thing is that no pictures were taken.
