Thanks again guys! Most of the shots were drive-bys (with the windows open, of course), except for the Butler Park observation hill. Somehow I found a parking space in that tiny lot on Riverside.

How's floor 51 coming along? Based on the progress yesterday, it would appear the platforms should start going up within the next day or two.

Last time when I was driving along Mopac over the Colorado, which was yesterday, there was some big huge green/orange structure behind Austin High. Anybody know what that is? It caught my attention even more than the Austonian.

so passing by the w awhile ago (it's 3:45 am as i am writing this) i see a crane being lifted.... seems like they were working on it at this time as well. the W is progressing a bit faster than i expected... or simply time is moving by fast. it looked really impressive at night watching it from south 1st. can't wait to see the finished product from that view. anyone got recent photos of the w? they really have been moving along.

Well, check Mopacs series of photos. A few of them should show the W.
I would say by today the Austonian is on floor 51.

The W is going to have a huge impact on the skyline and really balance it out.

Was driving back from Houston on Saturday afternoon. Had just passed through the last light in Elgin proper on 290 just as the elevation drops in west Elgin. I'm pretty sure I spotted the Austonian off in the distance 30-35 miles to the west.. Wish I had a powerful enough camera to capture it. Keep your eyes peeled next time you're out there.

Well it may be no maybe yes. I never knew the Austonian can be seen so far away, but I knew it could be seen that far in low terrain...

lake travis is disapearing. Can anyone post some picks of the lake now that it is sooo low.

My wife and I spent Monday and Tuesday on Lake Travis. Launched at Mansfield Damn and pretty much had the lake to ourselves both days. The lake is incredibly hazardous due to the lower water level, had to drive the boat with one eye looking forward and one on the depth gauge. Only a fool would be out there at night, and it will be scary on weekends with little room to manuver. It is dropping at 1.5 feet per week.

The W Hotel is really blocking my 2nd story view from across the street. Now that they are using the tables, I would expect the tower to go up a floor a week. I still predict they will dismantle the yellow crane and relocate the grey crane to that 3rd base they installed in the northeast corner, they are leaving an opening in each floor for something on that end.

Let us not exaggerate. I was on Lake Travis Monday, and it is certainly low. That's what happens around here when you've been in a drought for two years. Is it disappearing, though? Not even close. The lake is at 645 feet currently, averages 670 feet this time of year, is full at 681 feet, and has been as low as 614 feet, and even then was still holding untold millions of gallons of water.

Remember that the lake levels reported are elevation (above sea level), not the actual depth of the water. Lake Travis' deepest point is something like 190ft deep, but a lot of it is more shallow...

no, they will simply hold more water in it and release less if things ever got near that drastic.
