Maybe I'm just biased because I liked Keenan as a coach before he came to Calgary, but I don't think Keenan was a mistake. Could we have done better? Yes. Should we have done better? Yes. So often we scapegoat the coach. Just because he's the easiest to ditch when the team goes south. Better the coach than the combined $11.5 million we're spending on our two top defencemen or our $7.5 million star goaltender...

I still point to the fact that Keenan never out-won Playfair. And you'd be hard-pressed to argue that Playfair had a better group of guys playing for him.

But yes, part of it is I've never been a Keenan fan. His only real success came when ownership basically bought him a cup. Much like the stacked Yankees of a few years back, sometimes it's hard not to win.

Detroit is like that now, except they're still operating under the cap by some miracle, so it's not really money - it's just damned good drafting and trades. But they feel eerily similar to stacked teams of the past.

Playfair's record: 43-29-10
Keenan's record this past season: 46-30-6

Certainly we lost less games and won more with Keenan this year, than we did with Playfair in his season coaching the Flames.

Playfair: 96 points
Keenan: 98 points

There is such a thing as splitting hairs. They're functionally identical records.

And Keenan only had 94 points his first season here. 94+98/2 = 96. The exact same result.

To Keenan's credit, the team was on a huge roll until the trade deadline, when they just kept sliding. Hmm, I wonder if anything happened then.

Doesn't make sense to use actual salary values for that arguement, only the salary cap numbers, which are most definately lower than the numbers you just posted.

That and guys like Hossa willing to take a pay cut to have the best chance at a cup. Having a dressing room full of experienced players that can set the standard or mentor new players to play their best helps too.

This news goes up there with Ed McMahon dieing as not that surprising and somewhat expected. However, I think they should have left Lowry coaching the Hitmen. Nothing against Lowry or his coaching ability or anything, I just think he did an awesome job with the team and should have continued.

I talked to one of the owners' grand son and he said the owners collectively HATED aucoin @$4M. warrener, camelleri are gone...they could easily do this. the names on this roster are starting to stack up comparable to detroit..hopefully theres an Olli Jokinen-Bowmeester relationship that could give both players reason to stay here for a while

eklund actually mentioned this kind of scenario believe it or not, but he's been awol for a week..

I agree. I think that the Omaha logo was very well designed. Plus the team name was a nod to some local history apparently.

I don't mind the Abbotsford shirt itself. The logo is a bit generic, but the shirt and colours are pretty decent.

What Eklund says almost always comes to fruition, he's one guy that I definitely pay attention to.

It sounds like the Flames will have the bucks to sign Bouwmeester just a case of whether he goes for it. I think the Flames like Aucoin enough, but he's going to have to drop quite a bit to stay with the team.
