RIP Randy Steele

Very sad news. A good Hamilton booster and when he lost his voice he went into photography.

CHCH reporter Randy Steele dies

CHCH reporter Randy Steele died this morning.

The longtime Hamilton newsman lost his battle with throat cancer today with his wife and close friends surrounding him. He was 47.

Steele joined CHCH in 1996 after stints in a rock band and running a moving company. He was a news reporter, but showed his love for his hometown through his regular feature Steele Town.

He is survived by his wife Maggie and four daughters.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

I remember his Steele Town Reports on CH. He found City Hall wasting money with new street cleaner trucks just idling and not being used.

I remember Randy from all the way back to his Jack's Billiards days. He was quite a character.

We'll miss you, Randy.

I remember Randy as an excellent reporter with a common touch--and a uniquely Hamilton voice at CHCH at a time when local content had all but disappeared. His impact on municipal affairs and feature reporting was significant--at this time I'm sure we'll all keep Randy's family and friends in our thoughts and prayers.

I loved his "Steele's Town" thing on CH and his photo blog. He seemed like a great guy.
