The funny thing is that these people actually think Edmonton even has traffic problems. Edmonton doesn't have traffic problems.

I think the first people to complain are the ones who can't take transit if they wanted to. The trades, the delivery vehicles, the service industry. Pretty much anyone who needs more than a briefcase along with them at all times.

In a sense they have a right to complain if their new reality is a congested road where there once wasn't one. My boss has openly dreaded what 111 Ave/109 Street/Kingsway/Princess Elizbeth will be like with tons of development to the north and south of the intersection, and an LRT running through the middle as well. That being said, I pointed out to him that Jasper Ave, with all its density from 124 right into downtown, doesn't see too much traffic outside of rush-hour.

I don't mean to sound like a "negative ned" or anything, but these are real issues that the city and any prospective developers have to confront. How can we ensure that a high percentage of residents on Muni lands will leave their cars parked? It's a huge opportunity to convince the rest of Edmonton that it's smart to build up, not out, but the planning has to be in place, and it better be thorough, not excessively optimistic.

Seriously though, that advertisement is genius. Every time we pass by one on the bus, I always hear somebody talk about it. And is it true that they were discussing it on the radio and the news, too?

Concur. I said good-day to that site a lonnng time ago. I still pop in now and then but the site is just a huge cluster fuck now. Waste of my time.
