Just thought I'd post a few pics of renos and whatnot that I came across walking around yesterday:

Reno on Cordova:

The Terminus looks about wrapped up but still looking for some retail tenants:

^ great pics! terminus looks good.

the city has an online survey regarding possible changes to view corridors. it's quite well done with lots of pics and explanations (no registration or email required)

here's our chance to make a difference!

I liked the options in the servey. Rating them at the start was kinda dull. I gave a 1 to the views where you pretty much couldn't see the mountains, and anything between 4-7 for the rest depending on size and scope. I didn't want to give a 10 for any of the wider views because i felt those vies could and shoudl have towers intruding into them to break up the monotomy of the mountainline, while still preserving the overall view.

Later on the servey it asks you what you think should be done with each specific view, either eliminate it, raise it, narrow it, or keep it as is.

After that, it gets into even more specifics regarding the wider angle views from far away, including asking how many buildings you'd like to intrude along the mountainside (either 1-2 or 3+) in addition to the other options. basically they stole my idea. >_> You could select more than one, and I often found myself selecting both Narrow view and allow 1-2 buildings.

Then it allows you to comment and give your overall opinion about the survey, more details about how you think views should be handled, and what new views you think should be created. Then it asks you bout your demographics, what you do in and around downtown, etc.

As i said before, I liked the servey, very detailed and very well done.

i commented on the survey that some view cones are just plain silly;
example: WTF?

but i'm glad the city is revisiting this. downtown south for example really needs some variety in height to counter the table top effect.

Yea, all the WTF??? viewcones and the tree-blocked viewcones got my lowest ratings.

Did you notice the Laurel Landbridge (North) view of Cyprus had trees in the way, but you could still see cause it was winter (lack of leaves)? I put a 0 for that one and commented that in the summer the views would be blocked:

lol, what did you say for the different options? Scrap em a whole bunch of times, or keep em a whole bunch of times? Remember they might be watching.

Don't worry the online requests are treated much differently then the in person requests, it's felt that if someone cares about something they will find a way to show up, the city even tries to accommodate that by having 4 open houses in different parts of the city and on different days and times.
If you don't live in Vancouver that is noted too and taken into consideration. the city's job is too look after it's residents first and foremost, before it worries about the region.

^ I used my old Penticton code rather than my current Edmonton postal code. Perhaps they will add more weight to it...

I should have put in my Fanny Bay code, or one of my old Langley, Surrey, or Mission codes.

Minor news, but yesterday I noticed Andy Livingstone is just about completely re-turfed. Smells like rubber. Looks a lot better than the carpet they had before.

They started about a month ago, beleive they just finished although they might still have some finish work to do. It does look much better then the old stuff.

The 4-4 street hockey tournament was huge this weekend, hope they continue it annually. Anyone enter a team?

There was a machine spreading out the little rubber grains, at first glance I thought it was mowing real grass. From a distance, it looks like grass that gets over watered and fertilized - a darker green. Also, it seemed like there was a bunch of rolled turf waiting to be layed out. Hopefully it'll last more than a few years. I'm not a big fan of the fake stuff, but this looks as good as any I've seen. I know it will never play as good as a nice grass field. Noticed the street hockey too. That was something I did back in the early 1900s.

I like the way the did the podium/parkade on those buildings. I don't like the helicopter on the roof.

I think the brick at the base (is it goig all the way up the sides?) and solid walls is a nice departure away from the pure glass and spandral facade... The brick also gives it a more old and organic feel, while pure glass walls have always seemed steril to me.

Concord Pacific is kicking the marketing of Cosmo back into high gear.

Prices seem fairly reasonable.
