It's not a drive-through state so opinions are based on ignorance and misinformation and Michiganders are not people to go on and on about themselves and how great they are. Southerners could use a little of that humility.

Don't you worry about Michigan, it will come roaring back.

Michigan has always seemed like a very brainy state to me. And you are right about the water.

Michigan = cool

But i know Detroit has to be feeling this. Even before the woes of the big three, Detroit wasn't in a great position.

if i had a buck for every time i've heard that bit about the coastline and registered boaters (not even counting those pure michigan commercials) i'd be f***ing rich. you rarely hear about ga's golden isles or the fact that our own coastline is one of the last stretches undeveloped on the entire east coast. michiganders definitely love to go on about how underappreciated their state is - i just moved back from living in detroit for 3 years. and as for water, we have our own bit of coastline and the promise of desalination plants powered by offshore wind if we really need it.

i'd pit this state's multitude of universities and colleges against UM/MSU anyday. we've got a bigger variety of good schools anyway when you include things like emory, scad, mcg, atlanta's historically black schools... etc.

it will be quite a miracle if/when detroit does ever come back, as much as i'd love it to. corruption in atlanta's city government pales compared to detroit, and the mindset of the suburbs towards their center city is the worst in this country. combine all of that with the lack of any economic diversity, and it's no surprise things haven't looked good in a long time.

What does this have to do with Atlanta construction?

The Palomar Hotel opened several weeks ago. It seems to be doing well, and I have heard good things about the Italian restaurant inside.

RE: The Luckie-Marietta district, yes, there is still "some" construction going on over there. The Hilton Garden Inn is open, along with several restaurants and shops (Legal Sea Foods, for example)...The new addition to the Georgia Aquarium (for dolphins, I believe) is also coming along nicely.

It looks like the office portion of 12th and Midtown is close to topping off. Weather permitting, we should see a spruce tree on there by the weekend.

Yeah, Palomar is definitely open, and I've seen it bumpin pretty busy quite a few fridays lately.

Though I've also noticed, frequently, that they have people wearing construction vests (I won't go so far as to say they look like construction *workers*) standing out in front of Palomar passing out some kind of literature.

I just looked and they are out there right now, I can can't figure it out. They are passing out flyers it looks like. Interesting.

Will someone please help me on this one............

I have been trying my best to figure out what this building is from this web site..........http://www.atlantamodels.net/id1.html Scroll to the bottom of the page then click " Land planning and study models " then click on and enlarge the second pic for the Peachtree Triangle............. Take a really good look at it. It's not the Peachtree Triangle that caught my attention in this one... it's the very tall building that sits directly next to / north of the GA. Pacific Tower. I have been trying to figure this out for about a year and have gotten nowhere !! I have searched everything. Surely there has got to be somekind of info on a dead proposal of the size? Does anyone know anything ?

This was discussed on here a while back. From what I remember, it was supposed to be an expansion built by Georgia Pacific.

It's not a real project now. The site is owned by GSU now, I believe.

Nope, it has always been owned by GP. However, GSU tried to get them to donate it for a future facility for the law school and Robinson College of Business. When that fell through, we bought the SunTrust building on Park Place instead.

Also, any expansion plans that GP may have had probably bit the dust when Koch Industries bought them out a few years back. I wish they would build something though, and clean up that awful-looking entrance to the Peachtree Center MARTA station.

Promenade from the main page - what a bummer. I remember when they first designed and built the complex and it was designed for the three towers shown in the picture. I then went away to college and when I came back in the late 90's I couldn't help but notice it was still just that one building.

Man what an impact the three buildings together would've made.
