well otherwise they could make an extension that looks out of place with the rest of the roof or replace the entire roof at a far higher cost, which would be nice in an ideal world where money grows on trees.

I don't mind the triangle construction, but wish it wasn't that forest green colour (but aren't colours all fads anyways? palettes change over time)

There was previously uncovered platform to the south.
With the new south entrance, they probably want to increase usage of that part of the platform to distribute the waiting passengers - I guess they figure that shelter would help. Probably also ties into the new cars and more 4 car MKII trains so that part will get more usage..

all platforms on the Expo line are long enough to accommodate the longer trains 6MKI or 4MKII but are presently not covered the full length of the platform with a few exceptions.

Agreed with this statement. Right now, everyone tends to bunch up at the middle to north part of the platform. The reason? Most trains aren't 4 car MkII's, so most trains wont even stop in front of you if you're standing at the south end. As a result, when there is a 4 car MkII, usually the last car actually has a bit of extra space in it, because people get off, but few people get on. So in that sense, the new trains will enable more MkII's to be 4 car rather than 2 car, and thus encourage people to spread out on the platform, which should actually squeeze a bit more capacity out of the existing system (in addition to having more from having more 2 car trains before 4 car trains).

^^^ It'll work out even better if they can start running 6-car MK-Is on a full time basis.

I think a lot of people getting off the #20 bus heading north will use the new south entrance, since the bus stop is in front of the McDonald's.
That's some almost guaranteed use for the new side.

Are you talking about the hoarding around the old elevator? They are moving it over the next 3 months to the other side of the station where the new shaft has been under construction since November.

Well... it's a work zone so they probably don't want you to get injured for fear of civil suits.

Thanks for the pics. If you weren't in a fenced off area, just ignore the douchebag who told you that...it was probably some nobody who wants to feel important. Or s(he) is extremely gullible and has seen the GVTAPS ads at the station.
