Your correct! Wow, 3 new tallest buildings in less than 10 years. I'm so anxious to see the Austonian completed like many other people. The crown, base, and its prominence on the Austin skyline. What an amazing building. It's my 2nd favorite, after the Frost Bank Tower.
I had first thought the crane was at 600 feet, but I'm thinking it wasn't that tall after all. At the 47th floor, the building should be at 523 feet 8 inches. There's one section of crane shaft above the roof, plus the boom in priller's last photo. Those shaft pieces are about 20 feet tall. So that would take it up to 543 feet before the jump. Plus the height of the operator cab and boom, so maybe another 15 feet. So it might have been around 560 feet. That's closer to what I had suspected in the last few days. With the crane boom being so near the roof, I really doubt it was 80 feet over the top of the building. In priller's photo they were adding another section of shaft, so that would have brought it up to at least 580 feet. Does anyone know how many shaft pieces they've added this weekend?
I just saw it on the horizon, but it was too hard to estimate how much height they had added to the crane. I was headed for downtown for photos, but my brother called me wanting me to help him move something. So I might go later, I don't know.

The jack will raise above the last shaft piece at the top. It has an opening one side where new shaft pieces can be moved into to. The new shaft piece is then bolted into place. Then the red jack travels up that new shaft piece which has the affect of jacking up the crane. After that a new piece can be entered inside of the jack, and it'll travel up that piece. The process continues until they reach the height they want.

^Well, my 580 foot estimate was just with the height I was estimating before the jump, plus the new section shown in priller's photo. After seeing the building today, 676 sounds about right.

It has been confirmed that the workers moved up the platforms to the 48th floor.
The 48th floor is at 535 feet and 5 inches. Just a step closer to becoming the tallest building in Austin as well as finishing.
I found out about a coincidence on TheAustonianBlog today.
The coincidence is that the pouring of the 47th floor, which is the floor that makes the Austonian higher than Frost Bank, was on the day of the 6th anniversary of the topping out of the Frost Bank.

Yes, the Frost Bank Tower topped out on May 28, 2003. I remember about a week later they held the "Movies in the Park" at Republic Square Park. We went and saw Back to the Future. I remember looking over at the Frost Bank Tower and seeing the "topping out tree" on the roof of the mechanical penthouse.

I've been thinking the last few days, the person who works up there is probably the highest person in the city. It really is amazing when you think that they sit up there in that little cab for up to 8 hours a day nearly 700 feet above the city.
