The No-Ni-Shee Arch was a temporary archway near the intersection of Main Street and South Temple in downtown Salt Lake City. The archway was built in 1916 for the Wizard of the Wasatch festival.

Options include the east end of Library Square -- Mayor Ralph Becker's "preferred" spot -- or across the street, just east of 300 East. I've been hoping for years that someday, someone would donate the funds to construct a similar type arch for the center of one of our oversized intersections downtown. Cut back the corners of each block for traffic flow and place an arch or fountain with statuary and pertinent local history carved on its sides at the center of the intersection. Maybe now that we're really beginning to look at the interior of our blocks again, someone will put some magnificent monuments/fountains at the centers of our intersections and or blocks. The way some of these intersections are surrounded by nothing of value on the south end of town, it would sure be a major kick in the rear.

I don't know Metro, There have been a long list of firsts over the past ten years in Downtown Salt Lake. Thirty, twenty or even fifteen years ago, allot of those firsts would have been shot down as not possible or never will happen. We just need the right people to come along with the vision and sticktoitiveness. I'll bet there are several people on this forum, who will accomplish great things for the area in their lifetime.
