Chicago has a great history of skyscraper building and continues to add to its impressive collection with a few recent gems (from a sea of —) however, the street level leaves a lot to be desired beyond the pristine landscaping.

I have to disagree, it's in much further away from Seattle's core.

Especially from the Harbor.

Wow it looks like Vancouver has 300 more towers than Seattle in those pics.

Which, interestingly enough, gives it little edge over Seattle's.

Quantity VS. Size. Vancouvers new Shangri-La would be visible in Seattles downtown core, but it wouldn't stand out very much, and the rest of Vancouvers towers are alot shorter.

You are kidding right? Chicago? Really? Add 10 CN towers and Toronto still wouldn't have the skyline of Chicago. That said I do agree Toronto has the 3rd best skyline in NA, number 1 and 2 just happen to be in a whole other class, in height, density and quality of architecture.

Also Caltrane, your Seattle geography might need a little touching up.

chicago does have the supertalls and some of them are iconic/beautiful like j.hancock tower (my all time fav.) and sears but it is very different from toronto's because they are relatively far apart -well located -miles(?).
toronto, in contrast, has a 'core' -a very dense cluster of bldgs, more dense than anywhere in shytown and has alot more 'highrise' bldgs.
i wouldnt think "10 more cn towers..." would necessarily improve the t.o. skyline but some 'well placed' skyscrapers could do the trick -like what's happenning now with some talls at yonge/bloor, college street...
i believe toronto skyline could reach the notoriety of chicago's within a decade if we continue to see a healthy pace of development here -maybe even surpass it.

at the moment, i would say that because of it's height, quality, rich skyscraper history and mostly 'placement' of bldgs, chicago easily has the superior skyline.
i even favour it over newyork's!

to compare toronto's skyline (or any skyline) with chicago's at this time is still an honour
and i'll take that.

Interesting shot, though I'm glad the skyline doesn't actually look like that.

damn the visual evidence!

ok, the loop is very dense but i would still say t.o.'s MINT is there too.
pick chicago's densest intersection and compare to king/bay/adelaide.

toronto might have the win for densest single intersection... but remember the scale. that light brown skyscraper to the right of sears is taller than FCP i believe.

I feel bad for places like Berlin, London, Paris, Madrid.. big gaps, lousy massing, bad clumpage, no condos lining their waterfronts.. they just have no idea what makes a city truly great.

No wonder no one visits those places!

Can't you see it depends on the angle.. look how small that thing is...?

The CN Tower is huge from any angle... and always separated from the main skyline either by hieght or distance....

I never mentioned anything about quality of architecture... as for density.. I think you need to check up on your facts...

Toronto out does Chicago there by any measure!!!

Only New York has more skyscrapers than Toronto at least on this continent here.....

We're talking about skyline you twit, not entire cities. The CBD of Chicago is far more massive than the CBD of Toronto in any way. Once you get out of the CBD Toronto has FAR more highrises, but that is not what we were talking about at all. Unlike you I am actually familiar with the cities I make claims about, rather than asserting that the Space Needle is "sucked in by the rest of the towers" when in fact it is kilometers away from anything nearly as tall.

And you said that without the CN tower Toronto would just look like Chicago (Among a host of other cities) However that is not true as Chicago's skyline is set apart by its architecture which in my opinion and many others is second to none. Sears and hancock alone are far more recognizable than any tower in Toronto aside from the CN. If you took away the CN tower Toronto would not look like Chicago in any way, nor would it look nearly as recognizable. So while you never mentioned architecture it is still relevant to this discussion.
