Thanks for all your updates, NYguy.

Does anyone know when this building is actually going to start looking like, well... a building? In pictures I've seen of the original towers' construction, they were pretty recognizable even early on (of course, different design, different construction techniques, etc).

Since I can't speak as a New Yorker, I will speak as an American.

it drives me NUTS that the Port Authority isn't doing EVERYTHING in it's power to see to it that THIS project is finished to it's fullest potential as soon as possible.

They are responsible for helping to heal the whole country, not just their own pocketbooks.

Basically, what you are looking at now is the core of the tower. When the outer frame begins to rise is when it will resemble the "finished" product.

Really??? This type of attitude drives me crazy. Of course the port authority is going to do everything it can to maximize their economic benefit on this project. Politics and agendas aside, this project still has to make economic sense. We do still live in a capatalist economy, it's important to not forget that.

I'm actually quite impressed with the work that has been accomplished in this short period of time. I would think that a supertall project from beginning to starting construction would take much longer than we have seen here even under the best circumstances even without the sensitive nature, politics and cleanup/demolition/reconstruction that are involved on this project.

The Port Authority didn't want anything to do with the Freedom Tower in the beginning (there's a reason why a private developer got the lease). But the tower is under construction afterall, and has to be completed. It still has half of its space to lease out, but that won't become an issue for another four years or so.

actually it would be a pretty terrible statement since they aren't scheduled to be completed for several years after the recession should be over. I'll be happy if we see them actually get above ground by the time the recession ends

Still no word on the broadcasters returning to the Freedom Tower, but thought this little bit of info was interesting...

I'm sorry to say this but I'v lived in NYC for almost 13yrs and I've seen alot of buildings built over those years and I know that this is a special project with a lot of complexities compare to other regular projects....but this is extremely slow progress.

If the foundation of the other core is not where the first core is now- by the end of July then something is very wrong. I've suspected all along that the PA is really dragging their feet on this project!!!

It has been repeated in this thread often enough when the northern core should be expected to reach street level, and the building to start rising. Repeatedly commenting on the pace of construction isn't going to change anything.
