they don't usually show the whole system on the trains
from what i remember in london they only show the line that train runs on inside the train on the map - like they will only have the picadilly stops on a piccadilly line train
Well, our skytrain system isn't huge enough that it cannot be displayed in one single map, unlike the London tube system. I can understand that the London tube system is big and complex and would look really complicated in one single map. I still would have preferred that they show the whole skytrain network in a single map.

I personally prefer just one simple line instead of multiple lines and have a smaller route map on the side. Because of the Canada Line, it's awfully hard to fit the entire system in one map... and I've tried.
i would have like just a simple line indicting the canada line route along with b-lines on there too it would make it easier for people to know whats where for more rapid type transit

Now Translink could take a lesson from London. Look at the interior colours on that train. It is on the Piccadilly Line, which is dark blue on the tube map. The interior colours are also dark blue so you always know which line you're on just by the colours. The tube stations are also coloured in the same way. London has it right when it comes to branding and way-finding.
Definitely an improvement from today's trains, but like most other systems it's most ideal to have those LED maps on both side doors of the train not just one.
I'm quite impressed....but i wonder how exactly those lights will work during operation. I know that in Hong Kong, there are blinking arrows between the station spaces that point the direction of train travel. I'm only assuming that the LED lights here will be linking as well.
I also have to say that it makes the Canada Line trains look like a complete piece of %%%% that they built with a minimum budget with very little thought on the design and practical use.

And for those who are thinking of voting Liberals, just wish that the Canada line was as good as this.... this is what you get with a P3.... 40m platforms, singletracking, cut and cover tunnel and trains made in Korea. These trains COULD have been built in Vancouver as they were with the Millennium Line back when the NDP was in govt! ( oh yeah after Libs won govt, Bombardier closed the facility down... it was the NDP that actually got the facility built!)

I would have to agree with ravman, the Canada Line is cost cutting at its best. I would rather it be double its budget to have at least the same capacity as Skytrain (or even have real heavy rail cars).

Canada Line does have real heavy rail cars, just not real heavy rail system capacity.

I read through Translink's 10 year Transportation Plan 2009 and they did not earmark any additional money at all for West Coast Express for the next 10 years, which probably means that any service expansion needs to be profitable. They're getting to the point of almost being revenue neutral but still have a long ways to go before we get that illusive 6th trip.

So it would have been the NDP that failed to contractually bind Bombardier to keep the facility operating ...

Who's going to do a side by side comparison of specs?
As for the system map, it's pretty easy: put the whole thing on a square panel. There's no reason it needs to be a rectangle over the doors. Plus, it's way better to have the whole train system map.
