This is very true.
High frequency is all well and good, but when the bus has to stop at EVERY stop to let people on/off, it becomes nothing more than a really frequent local bus. This is where you know the service has to jump to something better... and since LRT is nothing more than a higher capacity bus on rails, this is where skytrain comes in!
Now, if they could just get this thing UNDER CONSTRUCTION before I start looking into moving BACK to BC in 2013
Btw, that freedom-of-information act that Port Moody pulled with the CPR right-of-way does not look promising. Expect the whole routing issue through the "historic" centre of port moody (gas stations n martial arts studios???) to become an issue again.
My prediction: If the liberals win, the evergreen line will proceed, but only after massive upheavals and expropriations to make way for the skytrain (either private owners, or the CPR right-of-way).
If the NDP win, then this project will go through three more redesigns, become LRT, switch back to the southeast route, then maybe they'll opt to build LRT over the Port Mann down the middle of the freeway (serving effectively NO walking-distance population).
Either way, Trasolini is going to be steaming for his entire term in office.
Considering I once said to my friends 14 years ago that it would be really "cool" to ride the Skytrain downtown to the then NEW GM place to take in a Canucks game, and here we stand with promises and funding announcements galore (before an election), I remain cynical. VERY cynical of this whole deal.
But don't get me wrong, I really think the Northeast needs skytrain -- and was needed 14 years ago (for more reasons than just me wanting to take transit to a hockey game).
