Centre Mall website is not back up and Redcliff Realty has no updates. What's going on.

Its not a mall anymore, just a collection of box stores. I don't recall ever seeing a website for a box-store power centre.

Pretty much, yah. The completed tally as far as I can tell:

The RBC bank just opened earlier this week. I would assume Canadian Tire's new store will be open by the end of the month, it looks complete on the exterior, including the gas bar. I assume that Scotiabank will also be opening this month, it's nearly complete on both the interior and exterior. There should also be a lot of the smaller stores moving into their units soon, only interior work remains on those.

All in all it's your standard big box wasteland, except a ton harder to navigate right now. I had to spend 10 minutes walking down Barton St. from the bus just to get into what's left of the mall.

Weirdly enough, the design for the RBC is actually fairly appealing compared to the rest of the buildings on the site. It also faces East, instead of North like most of the other buildings. It's fairly visible from Barton St.

Who ever designed Center Mall in it current state ought to be embarassed......but I bet they consider it a success.

But I assume that they were paid substancially or liked their employment.

The back of the buildings facing Barton St. is just one big canvass for the taggers....they will need a painter on staff, just for that. It is a mall designed for cars - period - just like the Medowlands....I did not even get off the HRS bus for that location.

As a walker try to get from one building to another.......

Centre Mall is a substancial FAILURE and and EMBARASEMENT to Hamilton.

They have not started work on the new Metro store.

The new Canadian Tire store. With a Marks & a grocery store in it and a new gas bar.

CIBC

Scotia Bank Almost ready to open.

Shoppers Drug Mart

And the rest

The old Zellers store is half down!

If you have time, come and take a walk through the old mall. If is like a ghost town. There are only 4 places left inside.

and also the washrooms are open and clean.

YEP!!!

Okay say that you are at shoppers drugmart and then wanted to go to Zellers, you get in your car and drive ther right? Find another parking spot, right? and then need to go to Canadian Tire, you get in your car and drive there right, find anothe parking spot, right?

Or would you park your car in one spot and walk to all those places? Yes if it was the old center mall setup. The new setup is not eco-efficient at ALL!

The place was built for the owners of the land not the business or certainly not the customers. An employee at the new setup has been asking customers what they think and no one likes it.

How could they have gotten it so wrong and why did the city go with it?

BTW the new Canadian Tire is probably in the worst location, and will likely result in decreased business. Although it is not just the location, first let me say there are some (few) good and decent people who work there, but the customer service desk and lineups at the registers is a refection of ........ A combination that says......

I was there today. It was just as packed as always and then some. There were always long line-ups at the cash at the old store. The new self serve cash are not open yet. The customer service desk is larger than before. Canadian Tire is a destination and not a as I pass it whim. I would cross a single lane bridge to an island to get to one.
The Marks is very handy but you have to go through the store to get there. I forgot to ask if I get Canadian Tire money for groceries. That is in the middle of the store.

The entire mall is closed except for the east Barton Street doors. Only two businesses left open inside. The dentist and the hairdresser.

Yes I was there the opening day and there were a fair number of people - just looking, the lineups at the registers 3-4 open, just look at the peoples faces in line they are not pleased - says something about how the store is managed?

At least 1/2 hour wasted to check luggage, do the register and then get luggage, says their time is more valuable then their customers?

If you have to check in any luggage at customer service and then the register lineups - a good place to shop if you have time to waste.

I doubt the food aspect of CT will make it worth while for them or the customers.

Yea weekends tend to be busy, but not during reg. business hours during the week.

The customer service desk makes no provisions for your belongings that you leave there, shows alot of respect for their customers belongings, heh? Dont bring Louis Vitton luggage....... Rather retarded.....and understaffed.

I've never heard of leaving luggage at a Canadian Tire. Judging by all the millions of parking spaces outside, they'd expect you'd leave it in your car.

okay this is a disaster. I finally visited it.
It's actually creepy scary, like a post nuke holocaust. It has to be one of the ugliest landscapes in the city.

I shopped at Zellers then had to drive to the Canadian Tire. I think it'll be worse then the Cambridge Power Center with Chuck E Cheese, by the 401. By far the worst Power Center i've ever seen. This might take the worst top spot when finished.

I do not see what the problem is. You would walk 1 ½ km from Sears to Zellers to K-Mart and back and no one complained. You always had to hike to and from the mall or any of the stores in it to get a bus. The new Zellers front door is right where the front door of the old K-Mart was.

As to driving to and from stores, I know people who would go to Sears and then drive over to Zellers so they would be closer to the door when it was a mall.

And as to the looks of the building, most people could care less so long as it is the store they want and they have the price they wanted to pay.

In 40 years, they will want to tear it down and someone complain that it should be save as a fine example early 21st crap construction!

This property has gotten worse with every single "improvement" since it was a race track. It would've done East Hamilton better if it still was a race track.

Are we made of sugar and melt in the rain? Buy a warm coat, rain coat or umbrella.
Are we Canadians? We have 4 seasons up here SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!
I guess one major reason that indoor malls are on their way out is $$$$.
So we pay to heat or cool thousands of cubic feet and proportionately what percentage of that huge space is occupied and for how long.
It is somewhat selfish that we have these enclosed spaces at the cost of our environment. It is elecricity and other resources to moderate the indoor climate.
It is also a deterent for the major convienience of shopping. Shopping has become a form of exercise. lets go to the Mall and shop.
Kids hang out in the malls and with little money can get in trouble.
And sadly as mentioned with normal wear and tear the common areas need maintainance. So it adds to the cost of the lease and is transfered to your cost. The live expectancy of a indoor mall is usually less then Centre Mall which was 1955 to 2008 or 53 yrs.
We could see Limeridge reach the end of it's run when it starts costing too much money.
Centre Mall may not be close to perfect but get over it, it ain't coming out of your pocket. if you don't like it shop elsewhere, I prefer this Canadian Tire over the one at Queenston and Nash (easier to get in and out of).
I think that just maybe to run the Barton bus into the mall Centrally with stops at Zellers, Metro and Canadian Tire would be great for the people without cars or as a transfer (HSR transfer good for 3 hrs) You could do you shopping via HSR.
Just a thought, whether you walk inside or outside is a 100 metres still a 100 metres.

I don't really care about the big box format. I just wished it had a stronger urban design with streetfront retail, not having the back of the store facing Barton St. That along with proper path/trails at the parking lot to protect customers from vehicles.
