I think the stone on the ground level support pillars kills it. It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the stone on this level and the levels below it.

This may not be directly related to "development", however is appears that SLC continues to move in the right direction. KSL article relative to housing sales between February and March 2009:

Relative to the ground level rendering of R&D structure, it is different and rather interesting. It has a "nature" feel to it.

Workers will begin moving the historic Odd Fellows Hall next week, an official for the company overseeing the move said.

For months, the building has sat 11 feet above ground while officials pounded out the details of the ambitious move across Market Street. A Layton Construction official says the route has been reinforced with steel plates, and crews could begin moving the 5 million-pound load as early as Monday.

"We're pretty darn close," said Alan Rindlisbacher of Layton Construction. "We'll get it done. We'll get it moving before the end of the month."

Layton Construction was working Friday morning to get Market Street restaurant owners to sign off on a city permit that would allow the road to close for the move.

The move could be delayed until Wednesday or Thursday, depending on weather. Rain might make the steel plates too slippery to safely move the building, Rindlisbacher said.

Heh, we sold my grandma's house to Soren last year... they called us every time something wasn't perfect. I guess I thought he was done with the architecture thing.

Hyatt Place at the Gateway

Broadway Park Lofts

Here is a close-up of the front of the Daft Building at 128 S Main St and then I looked across the street and noticed this little jewel with its facade being uncovered again. Hope they clean this up nice.

Ohhhh Man, that is sooo cool T-Mac, What exactly do you think they will do with it? Has anyone seen a rendering, or maybe an old pic of the original facade? Also, I have to say I like the way the Hyatt Place fits into that particular location. The glass treatment in the front and at the top makes it for me, even in spite of the yellow. Love the pics this week!!

I wonder if they are planning on restoring it for the broadway theater entrance? It looks totally stripped but hopefully there is some potential there.

They stripped the facade off that building a couple of years back. Until recently, it had a MUAH banner covering the front of the building. Now that MUAH is gone, so is the banner. The interior of the building is beautiful, but as you can see, there isn't anything left of the original facade. As to what the future holds for this building, your guess is as good as any.

It looks like the Hyatt is carrying on the pastel theme of the rest of Gateway. They could have toned down the Gateway pastels a little by going with a different color or surface. I like the glass, but it's way too small. There is a Hyatt at the International Center with a similar size and shape, but different color. It's hard to tell from Bangerter, but it could be identical. So why are the Utah Hyatts the size of Motel 6's? Is that all the confidence Hyatt has in the Utah market? They're probably budget priced.

I wasnt aware that MUAH was gone. There is a sign in the window that says "Closed for Remodeling." I dont remember seeing that sign until very recently. So unless im wrong, I was under the impression that they are going to remodel the building and restore the facade.... hopefully

Their website says," The Museum of Utah Art & History will be closed until June 2008 in order to renovate the facade of our building, adding an additional gallery to our lower level, and take care of other interior maintenance".

Outdated but, hopefully they are just starting, unless they are really closed.

It's their Hyatt Place brand, so it's not a full Hyatt hotel. I'm pretty sure it is less expensive than a full Hyatt but still pretty nice from what I've heard people say about them.

Generally if a website is outdated by a year, you can pretty much concede the thing is never happening, or at least not right now.

I believe I read in the Tribune a few weeks back, that the city was ending support for MUAH because they were unable to meet fundraising goals and other benchmarks. I can't find any links to the article, but I swear I read it. Perhaps I was just having an elaborate MUAH daydream.
