That LED wall is gonna be awesome. Anyone know if the same lighting feature will be applied to the taller tower as well?

^ i believe so. this is an excerpt from the development permit board report -

Applicant Response: The entire Pender frontage will be predominantly lined with commercial retail units with a 2 meter setback and an architectural canopy over. The solid cores at the two towers will be animated by the introduction of a random horizontal pattern in the concrete achieved by a series of reveals. It is planned to further activate the patterned core walls with an LED cove lighting system running the height of the building that will further accentuate the texture of this wall. It is being considered that this lighting system may be further developed to react to external inputs that will result in changing the colour and pattern of the light and that this may become the project’s public art contribution.

Yes this really is quickly becoming one of my favorite projects. great angles, good lighting effects, maybe other Vancouver condos should take note...

Love the lighting effect. It looks like it's on the south facing facade of the buildings though (and likely would be given the close proximity of the midrise to the north). That's the sad part though, I think, that we won't be able to see the lighting effect as part of the view from the harbour (or looking towards downtown from Brockton Point, for example). I'll take it nonetheless, but just saying it would be great to see that as part of the Vancouver skyline from the water's edge along Coal Harbour.

here's another interesting tidbit from the DP report;

Staff Assessment: A comprehensive submission of detailed drawings describes how this sophisticated architectural design will be implemented. The Urban Design Panel raised a concern about the mix of curtain wall and window wall systems. Staff agree that attempting to blend these two glazing systems will confuse the sculptural strength of the design and that a singular approach of all-curtain wall be pursued. In addition, the judicious introduction of colour elements into the design should be considered, perhaps with highlighted spandrel or other non-vision glass elements. (Condition 1.5)

i don't think so. looking at the rendering, there are two glazing systems used.
if i understand it correctly, the city wants those light blue vertical panels the same as the rest of the building.

I hope they leave them, it'll add something different to vancouver, all the other towers are just one color (we all know what that color is), its nice to add a bit of variation.

Its interesting to see the LED lighting going up the whole tower, that should really make it stand out at night, although i'll bet neighbours are going to complain and in the end only the shorter tower will be lit up...remember, this is vancouver...

Well LEDs don't give off too much ambient light, so it shouldn't bother residents too much.

Another poster asked whether the LED wall will be on the taller tower. I'm curious about that too. Anyone can confirm whether it will be on both towers? If so, that would be awesome.
